Purpose of role

The Global Advocacy Officer will work to increase integration between Sightsavers global advocacy and the advocacy work of country offices in francophone West and Central Africa. The post-holder will support the effective delivery of Sightsavers’ country level advocacy objectives into donor funded programmes across a range of issues within the region.

About the role of Global Advocacy Officer

  • Provides technical support to country offices for the development and implementation of strategic advocacy at national level, both within and outside of donor funded programmes
  • Advises on the integration of advocacy objectives into donor funded programmes across a range of issues within the francophone country offices in West and Central Africa. Participate in proposal development calls and work with countries to define advocacy objectives
  • Drafts regular reports and case studies on advocacy activity within country offices, and proactively share information with colleagues via internal information sharing platforms
  • Supports the Senior Global Advocacy Advisor in the provision of technical support, training and capacity building to francophone country offices in West and Central Africa
  • Encourages country offices to share their successes and learning from advocacy work with other country offices within and outside of the region
  • Supports the implementation of Sightsavers Advocacy Reporting App (SARA) with country offices
  • Supports national delivery of SIM card reporting, ensuring timely reporting of SIM across the francophone country offices in West and Central Africa
  • Supports the mapping and engagement with key stakeholders, networks, coalitions, and forums at the regional level. Including regional inter-governmental bodies and the regional offices of multilaterals, to maximise advocacy opportunities
  • Deputises for Senior Global Advocacy Advisor as required

Knowledge, skills and experience for Global Advocacy Officer

Essential:

  • Professional experience working on international development or other relevant policy areas
  • Professional experience supporting advocacy work at national and international levels
  • Understanding of development issues / knowledge of current issues and best practice in international development
  • Educated to degree or Masters’ level, OR equivalent experience in relevant topic
  • Strong analytical skills, ability to think strategically
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Fluent in French and English (written and spoken)
  • Able to build professional working relationships with ease
  • Able to network and inspire others
