Job Description

The Information Systems team urgently seeks to appoint a Technical Specialist: ESO!

Technical Expertise

  • To ensure the stability of the ESO technical architecture (hardware and software) including Namos, Blue Cube, EFT,  Loyalty Programs, Operating Systems, DataBases and Network.
  • To manage the WAN Account from an operational perspective.
  • To define and control architecture changes emanating from the group or local requirements
  • To drive and coordinate the projects architecture and interfaces  design between all local and international suppliers
  • To be an expert in system interfacing to all service station equipment e.g. pumps, DOMS, Tagging, E-Fuel, lightning protection etc
  • To be up to date with technology innovations in the Retail POS and EFT space
  • To identify system and architecture problems and manage the resolution thereof
  • To resolve level three incident escalations from third party suppliers
  • To log and follow up incidents with the international suppliers
  • To monitor incident volumes and to determine cause of increases
  • To actively attempt to reduce call numbers through implementing proactive incident identification and resolution systems as well as using standard debugging methods
  • To perform effective problem identification and resolution
  • To manage technical consultants and suppliers in terms of technical incident resolution skills & SLA agreements
  • To manage the technical documentation in the support & projects spaces
  • To implement and pilot technical and software solutions
  • To ensure compliance with  the Group’s HSEQ policies and practices
  • To ensure security standards are in line with the group or banking security standards
  • To participate in supplier contract reviews for Architectural & Operational alignment of services
  • To participate in RFP / RFQ formulations for any IT related services
  • To oversee the evaluation and selection of hardware and software products in the IS & ESO environment
  • To ensure Technical compliance of the ESO environment to the country’s legislation.
  • To engage with business users to gather requirements and design appropiate solutions.
  • To oversee progress of systems development to ensure consistency with initial design.
  • To develop high-level product specifications with attention to system integration and feasibility.
ADHOC – SERVER & WAN Environments

  • To be able to give technical advice to new projects and solutions proposed to be able to identify risks as well as to contribute towards the defined path of action.
  • To make recommendations on appropriate solutions/trends for implementation – their availability, track record and benefit to the organisation
  • Actively assist the Technical Server Specialist & the IS_Network and Telecommunications Specialist with the technical planning, design, maintenance and support of servers/systems where applicable.
  • Assist the Technical Server Specialist & the IS_Network and Telecommunications Specialist in working with all applicable parties to ensure successful co-ordination of commissioning and decommissioning of sites, technology and relevant servers/services
Preventive Maintenance and Incident Resolution

  • Define and implement the maintenance schedules (daily, weekly, monthly or other) necessary to proactively maintain the ESO environment under control
  • Define and implement day to day routines for monitoring and reporting of incidents relating to the area of responsibility
  • To be the key contact for ESO related incidents in Total South Africa & NBE
  • Advise on associated expertise/actions required to resolve issues encountered

Relationship Management

  • To ensure strong relationships and understanding of requirements, with the IS Team such as management, Solutions Analysts, Technical resources and project managers
  • Works well with group contacts and counterparts, ensuring good relationships are maintained and that local and group environment and context is understood
  • Works well with suppliers to ensure good understanding and support of the ESO environment, as required
  • To generally develop and maintain strong relationships with TSA employees and management (Group and local), suppliers and other key stakeholders as applicable, and ensures that good communication lines are open
  • Regularly communicates with supplier and Group counterparts
  • Responds effectively and efficiently to correspondence/requests

  • To ensure that risk management elements and identification of business critical applications are incorporated into each responsibility, as applicable

Other

  • IT Standby function, if required and depending on the workload pressures
  • To act as a backup for Technical Server Specialist & IS Network and Telecommunications Infrastructure Specialist as applicable
  • Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications, identifying and attending relevant training and ensures these are requested as part of the annual employee performance review
  • To provide reporting, aligned to IS KPI’s monthly or as required – Quarterly Reviews

Context and environment

The ESO system drives key business processes and underpins the service station service delivery to the customers. The ESO technical specialist ensures that the technical architecture underlying the Retail Service Station Systems is sound and in line with group guidelines and in line with best practice. Banking security regulations must be clearly understood and implemented

Candidate profile

To succeed in this role you will need the following qualifications, skills and attributes:
  • Technical Degree in Information Systems 
  • 5-7 years experience gained in a technical point of sale/retail and EFT environment preferably in the petroleum industry
  • Previous role as Solutions Architect in the Retail POS / EFT space.
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent technical skills in Windows, SQL, scripting, networks and security.
  • Key competencies include very good interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills both written and oral, customer-service orientation English is the working language 
  • Potential to move into a managerial role.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
  • Ability to manage supplier relationships.
