Division & Project Overview :

The International Development Group (IDG), an international division of URC with projects in East and West Africa and Latin America. Technical areas addressed by these projects include health systems strengthening (particularly as it relates to the health supply chain), HIV/AIDS, TB, nutrition, livelihoods, community mobilization, quality improvement, and social and behavior change communications, among others. IDG has a need for human-centered design technical support for a potential Global Health Supply Chain – Procurement and Supply Management (GHSC-PSM) project in Nigeria focusing on the creation of sustainable maternal, newborn, and child health supply chains in 3 states using a human-centered design approach.
The Supply Chain Specialist Consultant will report to the Director for of Implementation Science. He/she will provide technical leadership for the upcoming GHSC-PSM task order Applying a Human Centered Design Approach to Improve Availability of Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Commodities in Nigeria. This consultancy is expected to take place over three to four weeks. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following

Roles and Responsibilities :

  • Provide technical support to leverage a human centered design (HCD) approach to examine challenges in Nigeria and design a sustainable supply chain system to increase availability of quality MNCH commodities in at least three states in Nigeria (Kebbi, Sokoto, and Bauchi) ;
  • Inputs into the project design to maximize the approach ;
  • Undertake primary research including stakeholder interviews, field research, etc. to develop of an understanding of the problem(s) and issue(s) through two week trips to a state with a team ;
  • Facilitate the early development of multiple potential concept(s) and/or solution plan(s) to the problem(s) and/or issue(s) with users ;
  • Contribute to project deliverables including the interim report, finals reports, slide deck, and case study ;
  • Participate in meetings with the client.
  • Deliverables :
    • Weekly meeting with Team Leader ;
    • Leading/and or participating in stakeholder interviews ;
    • Undertaking stakeholder interviews in one state ;
    • Facilitating a state co-creation session ;
    • Inputs into interim report, Findings/Key Strategies Slide deck, implementation plan, and case study ;
    • Inputs into HCD process slide deck.

Minimum Qualifications :

Required Experience & Qualifications :
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in supply chain management; Bachelors Degree required ;
  • Experience in supply chain design approaches of similar scope and complexity including MNCH commodities ;
  • Experience collaborating and working with multi-disciplinary teams ;
  • Experience planning and conducting primary research, analyzing and synthesizing qualitative data & facilitating workshops ;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills ;
  • Strong computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint ;
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment, and ability to manage multiple assignments with speed and accuracy ;
  • Must have excellent communication skills, good professional judgment and capacity to work well independently and as part of a team ;
  • Must be willing to travel within Nigeria (anticipated 2-week trip).
Desired Experience & Qualifications :
  • Proficiency in a local Nigerian language ;
  • Experience working with users in the supply chain and public health ;
  • Experience working with USAID or other U.S. government experience is preferred.
