The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Secretariat has received financing from the African Development Bank toward the cost of the SUSTAINABLE FINANCING OF REGIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE AND INDUSTRIAL PROJECTS IN SADC Project, and intends to apply part of the agreed amount for this grant to payments under the contract for Consultancy to conduct a regional study on the identification and pre-feasibility assessment of investment projects for development of energy storage (batteries), copper and mining inputs regional value chains.

The services included under this project are the development of viable regional value chains projects capable of interacting with global value chains and identify areas where the SADC region can have the greatest success in capturing high value investment opportunities. This will cover copper, energy-storage (batteries) and mining inputs value-chains in the SADC region. The Consultant shall provide services that cover the following activities for each of the three targeted value-chains along the key broad outputs: Value chain analysis and mapping; Project Proposals and scoping reports; and undertake Prefeasibility of prioritized value chains projects from the three value chains. This assignment is expected to be undertaken over a period of nine (9) calendar months from the commencement date of 20 November 2020.

The SADC Secretariat now invites eligible consulting firms to indicate their interest in providing these services. Interested consulting firms must provide information indicating that they are qualified to perform the services (i.e. description of similar assignments, experience in similar conditions and availability of appropriate skills among staff). The Consulting Firm should have relevant consulting experiences with National Governments and/or Regional Economic Communities, preferably in Africa. Track record in value chain analysis and mapping, project development and feasibility studies, preferably in energy and/or mining sectors. The firm should have successfully completed in the past 10 years at least 3 contracts of similar nature and complexity

Establishment of the short-list and the selection procedure shall be in accordance with the African Development Bank’s Procurement Framework, dated October 2015, which is available on the Bank’s website at http://www.afdb.org
