Job purpose:

To Implement the communications plan by supporting and delivering a range of communications activities, providing research and analysis, and prioritizing effectively integrating gender data.

 

Key accountabilities (not all-inclusive, within delegated authority):

  1. In line with the Partnership Action Plan 2019-2022, implement country specific communication work plans designed to maintain and enhance the visibility and reputation of WFP, as well as support ; fundraising activities, ensuring alignment with overall communications and WFP strategies ;
  2. Contribute to communications through good research, analysis of assigned area of work and timely preparation and distribution of information products to target audience(s). Ensure that Arabic translation is available for main documents to be shared with public audiences (i.e press releases) and authorities ;
  3. Maintain a contact list of journalists and media outlets and support the flow of news/information about WFP’s work to the media, in order to support regular and appropriate communications ;
  4. Support the social media plan by developing social media content, and utilising platforms, networks and partners to enhance coverage and support of WFP’s activities ;
  5. Monitor and analyse traditional and social media to inform the development and/or evaluation of communication activities and strategies ;
  6. Support the Unit in meeting donor visibility requirements by generating donor specific visibility content including text, photos, videos and audio for use across a range of integrated online platforms as well as donor reports; and ensuring donor visibility in the field, in order to support global and country fund-raising activities, ensuring consistency with corporate messages ;
  7. Organize or support the organization of events and field visits to showcase the contribution of WFP to national priorities and SDGs, in coordination with the UN Communication Group wherever applicable.
  8. Support capacity building of WFP staff (with particular focus on Sub-offices’ Communication focal points) on all aspects of communication, provides advice and guidance within area and level of expertise, in order to ensure that all activities meet desired standards of consistency, quality and impact ;
  9. Strengthen WFP’s visibility in the field by providing a visibility kit to each staff and carrying out an annual visibility assessment, in close coordination with Activity Managers and Sub-Offices ;
  10. Liaise and interact with WFP staff and external counterparts to support aligned activities and a coherent approach to communications within WFP ;
  11. Work in close coordination with the Programme Unit to strengthen WFP’s accountability to affected populations, by producing quality awareness-raising material ;
  12. Support internal communication initiatives, including the organization of activities to engage the staff during global campaigns and international days.

Standard minimum academic qualifications:

Education:

  • Advanced University degree (Master) in Journalism, International Relations, Public Relations, Communications, or other relevant field with 3 years of professional experience.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, international Relations, Public Relations, communications, or other relevant field with 5 years of professional experience can be considered in lieu of advanced degree.

 

Desired skilss and experience

  • Proven ability to develop and implement communications or advocacy initiatives, using appropriate tools and channels; and to achieve results in a global, multicultural, multinational, and decentralized organization ;
  • Proven skills in Information management, Communications, undertaking research and surveys, preparing research and management reports using Microsoft word and PowerPoint ;
  • Writing, editing, and proofreading online and print content ;
  • An excellent understanding of science communication with formal training in journalism, communications or marketing or significant equivalent work experience ;
  • Should possess abilities like Teamwork, Communication, Creative Thinking and Client Orientation ;
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information and present ideas and recommendations in a clear and understandable manner ;
  • Ability to work independently, strong analytical skills and problem-solving ;
  • Computer literacy with Word, PowerPoint, and basic spreadsheets (Excel) ;
  • Excellent communication (both written and oral) and presentation skills.

 

Languages:

  • Fluency in English and French is required.
  • Intermediate knowledge (level B) of Arabic is a strong asset.
