Context :

This is a very exciting opportunity to join Alert’s largest country program – the Democratic Republic of Congo team – as the Chief of Party (COP) of our new country funded project. Bottom: Improving security, social cohesion and human rights in conflict mineral rich regions of eastern DRC. This is a leadership position within the Alert RDC program and reports directly to the Program Director or Peacebuilding Portfolio Manager (PBPM). The COP will be responsible for supervising a team of a consortium comprising 4 other partners (two international partners and two national partners). They will be responsible for supervising a team of 27 people and will directly manage 5 people :

• Reduced levels of violent conflict and improved security in the red gold and 3T (cassiterite, tungsten and tantalum) mines in South Kivu and Ituri ;
• Improved regional security and stability through cleaner chains, more effective governance of mineral chains at all levels.

The COP is the representative of the consortium on site and responsible for the day-to-day direction, supervision and overall implementation of project activities and achievement of objectives. He / she will communicate regularly with the Netherlands Embassy, ​​the PBPM and the project management team to coordinate the implementation of the project and ensure that the project deliverables are completed on time and on schedule. from the budget.

He / she will lead the reporting and coordination between the consortium partners and the project components. He / she will have to visit the project sites regularly, in particular Bunia, where he will supervise the sub-team; Frequent travel to regional centers (Kinshasa, Kigali, Bujumbura) and some international travel (especially in Europe) will also be necessary for advocacy at national, regional and international level.

 

Essential qualifications include :

• Extensive experience in the implementation of large and complex projects with consortia and with several international and local partners ;
• At least 7 years of relevant management, supervision and technical experience with progressive responsibility on projects of similar scope and scale in the DRC or in a similar context ;
• Substantial experience in NGO project management, including responsibility for contract management and donor relations (preferably Dutch), and proven experience in remote management of teams is required.

Additionally, we are looking for someone well organized, results oriented and detail oriented with a proven track record in peacebuilding / conflict transformation and familiarity with gender and conflict sensitive approaches. In addition, experience in developing donor reports and building constructive relationships with international and local partners (government and non-government) is essential as well as excellent working knowledge (spoken and written) of the French and English.
