The “Solar PV Engineering Snr Manager” position in a few lines

  • Develop and manage the relevant standards in terms of design and engineering activities (primary focus on civil and mechanical)
  • Review and challenge designs provided by EPC/BOS contractors, service providers and/or other relevant Third Parties
  • Leading to the successful execution of TSI projects, in terms of budget, schedule and performance criteria.

During pre-construction phase, the Solar PV Engineering Snr Manager will provide technical support to the Business Development and Projects teams to perform all the relevant feasibility assessments, design and price optimizations, and pre-construction design and engineering activities related to TSI projects portfolio, with a specific focus on:

  • Managing, reviewing and challenging site surveys and technical studies performed by Third Parties (geotechnical, hydrological, topographical…)
  • Performing preliminary design, reviewing and challenging civil and mechanical designs proposed by EPC/BOS Contractors and/or other relevant Third Parties (array layout, cut & fill, substation civil works, foundations, piles, roads, fences, bridges…), in order to achieve the optimum in terms of LCOE
  • Reviewing and challenging electrical designs proposed by EPC/BOS Contractors (substation layout, single-line diagrams, electrical losses calculations, basic load-flow and Icc calculations…)
  • Reviewing and challenging SCADA, Protections & Controls, Communication Systems proposed by EPC/BOS Contractors 
  • Reviewing and challenging the main equipment vendors’ and subcontractors’ lists proposed by EPC/BOS Contractors
  • Providing technical support to manage RFP for main equipment, technical service providers, EPC and/or BOS Contractors
  • Providing support in terms of CAPEX and OPEX modelling, LCOE analysis and optimization
  • Providing support for technical due diligences, with a focus on civil, mechanical and electrical design

During project execution, he/she will provide technical support to the execution teams, in order to deliver the projects on time, on budget and as per project requirements, from NTP through COD until EPC Contract Final Acceptance, with a focus on:

  • Reviewing detailed designs prepared by EPC/BOS Contractors, with the support and in collaboration with Owner Engineers
  • Ensuring compliance to the relevant codes, standards and regulations, in relationship with Owner Engineers
  • Supporting execution teams in the resolution of potential technical disputes and/or to provide on-site support when required

During operation, he/she will provide technical support to the Asset Management / O&M teams regarding design & engineering scope.
He/she will also directly contribute in building solar PV technical expertise, with a focus on:

  • Ensuring standardization of processes/procedures/templates related to civil/mechanical(/electrical) design & engineering activities
  • Managing Lessons Learned and keep up-to-date dedicated registers related to his/her scope
  • Developing and managing KPIs and continuous improvement activities related to his/her scope

Contexte et Environnement

Total integrates climate change into its strategy and is staying ahead of new energy market trends by building a portfolio of activities in low-carbon electricity that could account for up to 40% of its sales by 2050. Total Group’s ambition is to accelerate the growth of renewable energy and become a renewables world leader, with a target of 35 GW of a renewable generation capacity (gross) by 2025, then additional 10 GW per year to reach 85 GW by 2030.
Total Solar International will play a significant role in the achievement of Total Renewables targets, while developing, building and operating solar and hybrid projects, all over the world, either with full ownership or with partners in JVs.
The unit size of projects developed by Total Solar International is between ~10MW (small scale solar Utility Power Plant projects in Europe) and ~1GW (large scale in remote area). Such projects can reach a high level of complexity (in terms of organization, development, execution and operation strategies), and can be developed and implemented on a multi-year duration basis (from 1 up to 4 years). The unit CAPEX of such projects can be as high as 1G$, and some portfolio approach shall have to be considered.
The international dimension of this position is high: Americas, Europe, Africa, Middle East and Asia

The jobholder will report to the Head of Operations & Technical Department, and is a key member of this transversal Dpt, as he/she will provide support to potentially all businesses within TSI with regards to Engineering and Design activities. Therefore he/she will have to interact with business, legal, execution and technical teams in each and every TSI location.
He/She will also have to interact with the relevant teams within Total group (with civil, mechanical and electrical knowledge), in order to align and improve methodologies/process/tools/templates.
He/She will be in direct contact with 3rd parties, like EPC/BOS/O&M Contractors, Technical Advisors, Owners’s Engineers, Lenders, Partners…
This role may require business travels to support TSI local teams.

Profil recherché

  • You do have an engineering Degree, Electrical , Mechanical or Civil 
  • Minimum 8 years of experience within the solar PV industry, working for an EPC Contractor, Technical Advisor, Owner Engineer, or well-known IPP/Project Developer
  • Strong technical background within the solar PV industry, in terms of electrical, mechanical and/or civil detailed engineering
  • Specific experiences in both pre-construction and execution stages
  • Experience working in a multi-cultural / multi-site environment, and in a wide transverse / cross-functional mod
  • Knowledge of solar PV design tools and software (AutoCAD, pvCase, PVSyst…)
  • Fluent in English (French and/or Spanish and/or Chinese as a plus)
  • Synthetic and analytical mind, process driven, results oriented, project and team oriented, perseverance, adaptability, autonomy, open-mindedness, interpersonal skills
