The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of two years. Employment location will be Kabul, Afghanistan.

Welthungerhilfe (WHH) Afghanistan primarily focuses on the thematic areas of emergency relief, humanitarian assistance, rehabilitation and resilience, nutrition-sensitive agriculture and natural resource management, civil society, empowerment and skills development. As Expert Donor & Grants Coordination you will support the Head of Programmes and the Project Advisors with the development of concept notes and proposals and contribute to the development of the multi-annual country programme and to its implementation and monitoring. Your aim will be to maximize WHH’s impact in Afghanistan based on WHH’s strategy and according to internal and external quality standards.

Your responsibilities

  • In coordination with the Head of Programmes, develop donors and (grants) stakeholders mapping, ensuring that the country programme constantly maintains a clear overview of and seizes opportunities available
  • Develop expertise on donors’ strategies and policies and ensure that the country programme complies with donors´ strategies, procedures and requirements throughout the programme and grant cycle management
  • Contribute to the identification of co-financing opportunities with the aim to further diversify donor funding
  • Liase with key stakeholders and donors in consultation with the Head of Programmes
  • Facilitate the process of identification, assessment and development of new project ideas in consultation and cooperation with the Head of Programmes, in line with the multi-annual country strategy and WHH´s global strategic objectives
  • Develop quality project proposals in compliance with donor guidelines and in consultation with relevant programme and support staff
  • Facilitate the roll-out of the systems to support project grant management, including the internal project management software ProMIS
  • Ensures compliance with WHH´s and donors´ standards and procedures throughout the whole process of grant cycle management
  • Steer the process of grants monitoring in coordination with key stakeholders within the country programme, ensuring follow-up of project activities, monitoring partnership agreements, anticipating challenges, coordinating resources and facilitating communication
  • Lead project specific grants monitoring meetings
  • Ensure timely and quality reporting to WHH´s Head Office and donors through planning and coordinating resources
  • Contribute to improving the quality of grants and project management through the development of adapted tools and procedures

Your profile

  • A university or polytechnic degree in International Development or Social Sciences or relevant equivalent professional experience
  • At least 1-3 years experience in development aid, ideally in the region
  • German donor experience would be an asset
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Proven reporting and organizational skills, with proficiency in writing for different audiences
  • Ability to work under time pressure and, sometimes, high workload
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, coordination skills and experience in mentoring staff
  • Willingness to work in an insecure environment and commitment to adhere to strict security procedures
  • Ability and willingness to work as part of a multinational team, combined with a good sense of humor
  • Readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for traveling to Welthungerhilfe’s programme countries
  • Proficient writing and oral skills are mandatory in English language, German language is an asset.
