Purpose

The EIB seeks to appoint an experienced professional to assist in carrying out EIB public sector operations within the Southern Africa and Indian Ocean region. The successful candidate will work together with a small and committed team of international and national personnel. S/he will have the opportunity to make a varied, interesting and substantial contribution to the assessment and development of the EIB activity in the region which may include – from time to time – contributions to private sector operations.

Depending on business needs, s/he will be expected to travel to countries in the region as required and occasionally to Luxembourg.

Operating network

The posts covered by this recruitment campaign will be linked to the specific Unit covering operations and countries in Southern Africa, but they may also cover any activity of the Division within its Sub-Saharan Africa business as needs dictate.

You will report to a Head of Unit based in Luxembourg and for administrative and institutional matters, you will report to the Head of the Pretoria Regional Office.

Accountabilities

The day-to-day tasks of the successful candidate will include the following:

  • In close co-operation with the responsible loan officers, analyse proposals with a view to developing a pipeline for public sector business;
  • Interface with borrowers and/or project promoters in detailed examination of proposals;
  • Collect and analyse financial and kyc information;
  • Monitoring and reporting of project implementation;
  • Contribute to briefings for various occasions and maintain relevant databases;
  • Perform research on clients and countries;
  • Build relations with key external parties (in particular government representatives, local authorities, public sector promoters etc);
  • Represent the EIB at events, for example regular sector meetings.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Finance/Economics or a business related discipline. Additional qualifications such as CFA will be considered an advantage;
  • Minimum three years of relevant experience in the banking, financial or development sector;
  • General experience in evaluation of proposals to finance banks, financial institutions and corporates;
  • Dynamic individual with excellent interpersonal and business skills;
  • Good knowledge of standard computer tools;
  • Strong diplomatic and communication skills;
  • Ability to take initiative and handle multiple activities;
  • Good writing style and capacity for rapid and clear analysis and reporting;
  • Multi-country working experience would be desirable;
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English.
  • Proficiency in Portuguese and/or French will be considered a strong advantage.
