The RTSL team is currently seeking a highly skilled part-time translator to ensure the delivery of top-quality translations (from English to French and French to English) for technical materials related to our upcoming Program Management for Epidemic Preparedness initiative and the launch of the WHO IHR benchmarks site. The translator will utilize and contribute to a comprehensive glossary of technical terms for global health security to create coherent, culturally responsive content.

Example translation requests: emails, surveys, forms, PowerPoint presentations for trainings, website copy for the new WHO IHR benchmarks site.

Estimated Workload: The translator will be expected to work approximately 8-16 hours per week, starting from August 14th to October 30th. This is a remote position.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education and Language Proficiency: Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics, International Relations, or a related field. Proficiency in both English and French languages, with demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication.
  • Experience: 3 + years of proven experience in professional translation, particularly in the fields of public health, international development, or global health security. Experience working with multilateral agencies or international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) Understanding of public health programming and management terminology, particularly within the context of francophone African countries.
  • Translation Skills: Exceptional translation skills, with a keen eye for detail, accuracy, and cultural appropriateness. Ability to convey complex technical information clearly and effectively in the target language.
  • Time Management: Able to work efficiently and meet tight deadlines, with a track record of responding promptly to translation requests. Flexibility to accommodate urgent translation needs as required. Able to complete most translation requests within 12-48 hours depending on the complexity of the deliverable.
  • Technological Proficiency: Proficient in using desktop publishing tools (e.g., Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, Adobe) to create quality products.
  • Team Player: Can collaborate effectively with a diverse team of professionals, ensuring seamless communication and coordination. Can take and offer feedback constructively.
  • Ethical and Professional: Demonstrated commitment to maintaining confidentiality and respecting the sensitivity of the information being translated. Strong work ethic, reliability, and the ability to maintain a high level of professionalism in all interactions.
  • Availability: Can work during US Eastern Time or Central European Time core working hours.

The translator will report to the Senior Program Management Advisor responsible for overseeing PMEP.
