Job Description

  • Perform the accounting function for the trading activities of the Singapore office timely, accurately and in compliance with the TOTAL Group and T&S standards/procedures and various regulations, i.e. Global Trader Programme (‘GTP’); GST regulations, Withholding Tax, Income Tax, SOX and statutory audit, IFRS and FRS standards etc.;
  • Responsible for the downloading, checking and posting of P&L entries, invoices, payments/receipts relating to physical trades and derivatives. Ensure all accounting activities for monthly, quarterly and annual closing are completed timely and accurately
  • Responsible for the recording and justification of accruals in the respective trading books. Monitor and follow up accruals and provisions periodically with the respective departments. On a regular basis compare invoices received to accruals/deals to identify posting errors, prior period adjustments, incorrect deal valuations, incorrect invoices, or weaknesses in the actual / accrual processes or systems, and clearly communicate findings to Operation, Middle Office, Back Office or IT teams as appropriate.
  • Check and monitor the accounting records and P/L of trading book weekly and liaise with operators regularly of the anomalies noted (differences between invoices/accruals, different third parties, amounts, currencies, hedges, etc.)
  • Reconcile the P&L between the trading system and the accounting system on a monthly basis (by vessel, storage)
  • Reconcile monthly derivative hedging activities
  • Responsible for monitoring the accuracy of interest calculations generated by the trading system on physical trades for working capital utilisation
  • Reconcile quarter and annual inter-company transactions between trading entity and other affiliate entities for CAP Consolidation reporting
  • Prepare and submit weekly and monthly trading P&L reports to Head Office
  • Daily investigation of significant P&L movements on each physical and derivative trade, by desk, and assessment of traders’ MTM figures in the trading system and Middle Office calculation
  • Monitor and ensure the hedging of non-USD transactions and FX fluctuation relating to FX hedging activities
  • Ensure the complete and accurate recording and declaration of GST in Singapore and Australia GST and Singapore Withholding tax for  physical trades and related trading items to carry out regular review and reporting to the Singapore tax authority (IRAS)
  • Point of contact for all Singapore GST queries for trading activities from teams within the company and handle queries and challenges from external counterparties
  • Coordinate with Geneva T&S Tax team for tax advice and guidance on operational issues, queries from trading teams
  • Special focus on ensuring that the company’s accounting records are compliant with the requirements of the company’s membership of the Global Trader Programme (‘GTP’) and accurately reflect in the annual tax computation
  • Involve in internal and external audits
  • Constant liaison with internal parties such as Traders, Operations, Middle Office on operational issues and ad-hoc matters; communication with Geneva, US and Paris office for financial reporting guidance and sharing; and with external parties such as auditors, tax advisors and Government authorities.
  • Prepare and submit all surveys from Government authorities (Department of Statistics, Energy Market Authority, Enterprise Singapore, Monetary Authority of Singapore), within the specified deadline.
  • Complete special projects as assigned

Candidate profile

 

  • Degree in Accountancy or Equivalent (Bac + 3) with recognized professional accountancy qualification – e.g. Chartered Accountant or ACCA membership
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ post qualification working experience in a accounting environment with prior experience of working with in a commodity trading environment and understanding of the complexities of trade accounting and trading systems/databases
  • Ability to cope well with stress and multi-tasking for urgent requests
  • Meticulous, professional, responsible, efficient, strong inter-personal skills able to work both independently and as a team player within/with other departments and management, demonstrates good communication skills and close attention to detail.
