Job Description

Our teams are well known for championing creative and innovative solutions to support all children and families to reach their full potential. In Doomadgee, we are looking for a passionate leader to drive our dedicated Early Childhood programs team to maximise their impact on the lives of children and families. In this varied and challenging role, you’ll manage and develop programs, foster lasting links with the community, develop the capacity of local workers and encourage active engagement with our services.

54 reasons is Australia’s leading child rights organisation – no ordinary not-for-profit.

Proudly part of the Save the Children Australia Group and global movement, we’re here to make sure that everyone understands their rights. So that children and young people have their rights met and thrive, in all their diversity.

We champion the children, young people and families we work with. We are inspired by the curiosity and creativity of children and motivated by the love of those who care for them.

With the child’s voice at the centre, we provide quality services to children and their caregivers, advocating with them so that children develop, learn, and are connected, safe and confident. Our people are proudly local, reflective of the communities we serve – in every state and territory, and across regions, remote areas and capital cities.

Where you come in:

In this full time, maximum term role (through to end of December 2024), you’ll lead a local team to deliver our Early Childhood Education programs across Doomadgee. This will include our School Transition, Play2Learn, Holiday, After School and HIPPY programs, working in the 0–8-year-old space. Reporting to our Regional Manager for the Gulf, you’ll ideally be based in Doomadgee, though a FIFO arrangement will be considered for this role.

You will make an impact by:

  • Leading and developing a passionate team, including providing their professional supervision;
  • Supporting the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programs;
  • Building and maintaining relationships with the local community and key stakeholders;
  • Driving quality programming at the Doomadgee Children and Family Centre, and supporting our HIPPY tutors to provide tools to parents/carers as their child’s first teacher;
  • Carrying out the operational running of programs and budget management.

Does this sound like you?

You’re a passionate early childhood leader, who works from a strengths-based perspective and highly values the wellbeing of their staff. You’ll be happy to contribute to program design, while prioritising results and risk management. Importantly, you’ll keep the values of 54 reasons at the forefront of your work and will always seek excellence in the services we provide to our families.

This role requires:

  • Leadership experience in Early Childhood Education settings, including a demonstrated ability to build a cohesive team;
  • Degree or Diploma in Early Childhood or another relevant field, or significant relevant experience;
  • Experience working with teams supporting children and families from diverse backgrounds, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds;
  • Thorough knowledge of child protection processes and commitment to upholding them;
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating reporting and collecting outcome data.

Working at 54 reasons is more than just a job.

We are a learning organisation that invests in the development and wellbeing of our people. Our workforce is 680+ people strong, and proudly diverse, whether in race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexuality, cultures, and beliefs.

We are creative, connected, and accountable, bringing energy, guts and ideas to all we do to champion children in Australia and partner with families, communities and partners to bring about change.

Other benefits include:

  • Award rate salary (slightly above SCHADS Level 6.1) plus full salary packaging benefits;
  • Potential to FIFO, if based in a major Queensland city;
  • Festive leave in addition to regular leave benefits;
  • Friendly and flexible child friendly work environment;
  • Individual learning plans to assist in your career development;
  • Internal deployment and secondment opportunities within one of Australia’s largest non-profits.
