Job Description

We’re seeking applications for a Family Support Specialist to join us in Mount Isa as part of the Family and Child Connect Team. This program supports families who are at risk of entering or re-entering the child protection system – connecting families to the right service at the right time.

Where you come in:

Family and Child Connect are local, community-based services that help families to care for and protect their children at home. This is a full-time, permanent role:

  • Broadly speaking, the FaCC Family Support Specialist will;
  • Build family capacity by using partnership, outcomes based, strengths’ perspective and client-centred approaches;
  • Identify where additional assistance and external services are required, providing appropriate information, support and referrals;
  • Collaborate with team members to deliver programs and support services, promoting positive and culturally respectful approaches to parenting, and child and family wellbeing;
  • Provide holistic case management, delivering support to vulnerable and disadvantaged clients and supporting relationships for favourable client outcomes;
  • Identify strengths, establishing goals for the program and reviewing clients progress towards these.

Does this sound like you?

You’re an experienced Case Manager with high levels of initiative and flexibility alongside cultural sensitivity and knowledge. You’re able to respond calmly and effectively in complex situations.

This role requires:

  • A Bachelor of Social Work, Psychology or relevant Human Service Qualification and/or significant experience in a similar service;
  • Experience working with individuals from culturally diverse communities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the stresses on vulnerable families and the range of family risk and protective factors which impact on child outcomes;
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills;
  • Current drivers’ licence.
