ABOUT THE POSITION

WorldFish is implementing the Feed the Future Bangladesh Aquaculture and Nutrition Activity (Aquaculture Activity) in 21 south western district (Zone of Influence) and 2 south eastern district (Zone of Resilience). Aquaculture Activity aims to improve the livelihoods of at least 400,000 beneficiaries, including smallholder fish farmers and other actors in the aquaculture value chain. The program is inviting application from the students to conduct research as part of their regular academic thesis on challenges identified, key interventions of the Aquaculture Activity, and tangible outcomes. The research should focus on one or more of the following interventions of the Aquaculture Activity:

  • Access to quality inputs (e.g. fish feed, seed, aqua medicinal products)
  • Access to improved aquaculture technologies (e.g. IPRS, Bottom Clean, carp fattening, etc.)Access to finance and support services
  • Access to forward market
  • Nutrition and Food Security
  • Nutrition-Sensitive Aquaculture
  • Gender and youth inclusion in Aquaculture

The goal of the research is to generate new knowledge that can be used to enhance agricultural productivity and income.

Key Responsibilities

1. Identify a research area from the project interventions;

2. Develop hypothesis for the research;

3. Develop methodology of the research;

4. Sampling/outreach plan and develop tools;

4. Collect data and analyze the data;

5. Validate findings in collaboration with teachers and project personnel;

6. Submit final report and or journal article.

Requirements

This opportunity is open to all National applicants with the following skills and qualifications:

1. Bachelor/Masters students of thesis group from the relevant departments (i.e. Fisheries, Fish Technology, Marine Science, Agriculture Economics, Development Studies, MBA, Economics, Nutrition and Food Science, Public Health, Women and Gender Studies);

2. Interested to choose the research area mentioned in the project background for the thesis;

3. Fluent in writing and speaking English;

4. Strong analytical ability;

5. Knowledge on research methodology;

6. Familiarity with the statistical tools (SPSS, R, STATA, MS Excel).

Eligibility and Location

Students will work from their residence and they will need to travel Zone of Influence and Zone of Resilience whenever required for the field visit. Interviews are expected to be held in May 2023 and only shortlisted candidates will be notified and expected to attend the interview. The successful candidate should be available as soon as possible for months internship contract.
