Job Summary:

The Nutrition Technical Officer  (NTO) will work closely with the EpiC technical team to support the development, implementation, and monitoring of activities to prevent and manage malnutrition in Ghanzi and Kgalagadi. The NTO will provide technical guidance and mentorship to the subpartners working with EpiC to ensure the nutritional interventions are implemented on time and per scope.

Accountabilities:

  • Provides oversight and project management for the implementation of the EpiC project on management of malnutrition in Ghanzi and Kgalagadi districts.

  • Implements nutritional interventions to identify children and adults affected by malnutrition and enroll them on the program, as per the workplan and track performance indicators to ensure success of the program in collaboration with other stakeholders
  • Works with the Strategic Information team and Senior Technical Advisor to monitor the progress and to track programmatic performance and to implement corrective actions where interventions and strategies do not deliver the anticipated outcomes;
  • Strengthen EpiC’s relationships with local stakeholders and District Health Management Teams to enhance collaboration for service delivery in the districts under their region to support EpiC activities;
  • Liaise with government counterparts (including Regional Medical Officers, Regional Health Management Teams, District Health Management Teams, etc.), service providers, implementing partners and stakeholders to ensure that EpiC interventions on malnutrition are well-coordinated and feed into national and regional programs, plans and achievements.
  • Under the guidance of the Senior Technical Advisor, work with CBOs, CSOs, other KP partners, local health centers and the MOH to increase the uptake of nutritional interventions and other health and wellness related services both at a community and clinic level, and in line with the workplan.

  • Work closely with the Senior Technical Advisor to cascade Community Health worker Guidelines to districts and local partners and advocate with district health management teams to integrate guidelines into programming.

  • Develop and/or contribute to technical briefs, reports, guidelines and other materials on the malnutrition interventions and their impact.
  • Identify training opportunities for EpiC CSO and project staff within the districts and provide mentorship to deliver quality care for management of malnutrition to affected children
  • Responsible for quality management and quality improvement plans, ensuring that Community healthcare workers adhere to minimum clinical standards
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Basic knowledge of the technical area of the project.

  • Strong and demonstrated project/project management skills.
  • Ability to problem solve and implement corrective action as needed.

  •  Ability to prepare reports and provide information to management in a timely matter.

  • Articulate, professional, and able to communicate in a clear, positive fashion with funder and staff.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English, fluent in host country language as appropriate.

Education: *

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health Nutrition, or Nutrition related qualifications. Masters or postgraduate diploma is an added advantage.

  • Professional experience in one or more of the following areas is desired: nutrition public health; nutrition planning and management; or maternal, infant and child health and nutrition care.

Experience: *

  • Typically requires a minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Prior work experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO), government agency, or private organization.
  • International or Domestic (US) Program Development or Program management preferred.
