About the role

The Fundraising area is responsible for the fundraising and donor retention strategies with a view to achieving the financial sustainability of Amnesty International Brazil (AIB). The area is also responsible for donor and supporter relations to enhance public engagement and involvement in integration with the organisation’s campaigns, programs, and administrative and financial policies and procedures.

About you

  • To lead, develop and implement the fundraising and resource mobilisation strategy of AIB to strengthen its activities in Brazil with a view to achieving financial sustainability for the office and greater AIB donor engagement.
  • To supervise, direct and manage the Fundraising and Supporter Relations department of AIB, assuring observance of the strategic goals of the Amnesty International (AI) global movement, effective financial results and engagement with resource mobilisation actions, projects and campaigns.
  • To participate in joined-up actions and negotiations with the other sections and structures of AI concerning fundraising.
  • To work with the other members of the senior management team to ensure operational and strategic inter-departmental integration.
  • To encourage, develop and retain supporters through supporter events and integrated communication strategies devised together with the Programs department.
  • To develop new fundraising and technology-based strategies to boost donor numbers and improve donor retention and to integrate them with financial systems together with the Finance and Operations department.

Main responsibilities

Fundraising Management and Strategy

  • Develop, lead and implement fundraising strategies for AIB in alignment with the organisation’s overall strategies.
  • Monitor, assess and revise strategic plans and growth projections on a quarterly basis, producing reports as required for the executive director and AI’s International Secretariat.
  • Develop, lead and implement strategies to retain donors and supporters with a view to the financial sustainability of AIB, in alignment with the goals of Amnesty International.
  • Work together with the team to devise operational and budget plans for internal and external fundraising programs, including face-to-face, voice-to-voice, digital, DRTV, direct mail, and donor retention and development.
  • Manage relationships with large donors and develop strategies to expand this donor base and expand involvement and forms of engagement with Amnesty.
  • Negotiate, implement and monitor opportunities with agencies to outsource fundraising projects in a quest for efficiencies in the department’s processes and budgets.
  • Maintain and expand on AIB’s donor and supporter base according to the targets set by the executive director.
  • Lead the development of projects and proposals together with institutional supporters and foundations.
  • Keep abreast of developments in fundraising in Brazil and around the world with a view to identifying innovations and opportunities for new fundraising channels, methods, technologies and tools, all in compliance with legislation pertaining to fundraising activities in Brazil.
  • Assure the department’s observance of AIB’s policies in the financial and administrative management of donor transactions.
  • Work together with the NGO sector in Brazil and engage in benchmarking to keep abreast of the sector and assess and compare the performance of the program in Brazil.
  • Optimise the processes of the areas under your responsibility.

Team Management

  • Help set people management strategies pertaining to the recruitment, evaluation, development and retention of skilled professionals engaged with the goals of AIB.
  • Develop, motivate and manage fundraising teams in full compliance with AIB’s human resource policies, monitoring and assessing their performance and seeking out personnel development opportunities.
  • Manage the team, setting priorities, delegating and overseeing activities and responsibilities, providing resources as needed, promoting and developing collaborators, identifying training needs, assessing and enabling movements of personnel, all with a view to improved productivity, quality, results, integration and synergy between people and the identification of talents.
  • Set and monitor targets and conduct performance assessments of your team and personnel.

Direct Relationship with Other Departments and Areas of Amnesty International

  • Work directly with the Campaigns and Research department to develop products and integrated strategies to boost the effectiveness of projects and campaigns to raise funds and grow the donor and supporter base.
  • Work together with the Finance and Operations department to draw up budgets and contracts and monitor and manage budgets for fundraising projects and actions, assuring optimal quality and confidentiality of data.
  • Support the implementation of the project and campaign evaluation model in line with international AI references and integrate actions and goals with other AIB departments.
  • Liaise with the fundraising areas of the International Secretariat and other sections to assure clear communication and capitalise on innovative projects run in other sections.
  • Liaise with the Fundraising Management team for the development of fundraising strategies and growth of the movement.
  • Liaise with other AI fundraising directors and participate in opportunities to develop the fundraising team

Support and Advice for the Executive Director

  • Be accountable to the Board of Directors and International Board of Amnesty International for the quality and effectiveness of fundraising from AI mobilisation campaigns and programs in Brazil.
  • Submit periodic reports and analyses on fundraising activities and results.
  • Provide support in coordinating and negotiating with other sections and structures from the international movement.
  • Provide support in relations with the Board.
  • Provide support for the executive director in the development and supervision of long-term strategies.
  • Other responsibilities delegated as requested by the executive director.

Observance of the Organisation’s Goals and Corporate Management Policies

  • Represent AIB in contact with other organisations and take part in events and working groups, sharing best practices.
  • Keep track of movements and trends in Amnesty International’s areas of interest to support the organisation and propose actions to expand the scope of its objectives and causes.
  • Observe and enforce the AIB mission, vision and principles.
  • Conduct management activities in accordance with the organisation’s principles, code of ethical conduct, policies, guidelines and procedures.

Security

Abide by all the security protocols established by AIB.

 

Skills and experience

Qualifications: Degree in communication and marketing and postgraduate diploma in fundraising and/or MBA/master’s in administration.

Experience: Ten years in fundraising and/or marketing, five of which in managerial positions in the third sector.
