KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Objective and Rationale for the Recruitment

The aim and objective of recruiting the international consultant (Architect) is to review the existing architectural designs of the Yaounde CO building, it extensions and incorporate in new designs of a standard and modern office building and in accordance with WFP corporate Standards. WFP office in Cameroon needs reorganizing to meet both safety and spacing requirement as well as modern features that not only meet the needs of WFP and UN at large in Cameroon. The CO therefore requires the services of a qualified architect, to support it in this process of office up-grade, as this expert is not currently available at the CO.

B. Scope of work

The consultant shall work in Administration Unit of the Country and be based in Yaounde, with possibility of travel to the Field Offices as and when required.

C. Reporting

Under the Overall supervision of the Country Director and direct Supervision of the Head of Finance and Administration, and in liaison with the project teams, the Architect is shall deliver on a number of work streams as summarized in the tasks below, under D.

D. Specific tasks

The specific roles and responsibilities of the Architect shall include but will not be limited to the following:

  1. Review the existing building designs and make recommendations for improvement in consultation with the Interior design expert and WFP corporate requirements.
  2. Come up with bill of quantities based on the designs so suggested for the engineering companies to quote for the services that shall be required by WFP.
  3. Review the existing designs developed by the earlier architect and suggest improvements or redesigns as necessary.
  4. Incorporate any changes as may be necessary to enable the CO accommodate the increase space requirements.
  5. Effect transfer of knowledge to national counter-parts in the related field to the extent possible.
  6. Monitoring of construction sites to ensure that the quality and construction designs are in line with the CO approved renovation plans.
  7. In liaison with the CO Engineer, review and certify completed works before payment is effected to the service providers in the designated fields.
  8. Any other architectural related designs as may be asked by the CO Management.

STANDARD MINIMUM ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
  • The architect shall have relevant university degree or equivalent.
  • with It is assumed that the architect will have extensive knowledge in environmental construction and, adherence to such standards and related fields.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in related field.
Technical Knowledge & Skills:
  •  The architect should have extensive knowledge in environmental construction and, adherence to such standards and related fields.
Languages:
  • International Professional: Fluency (level C) in English language. Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and/or Portuguese (a WFP working language).
  • National Professional: Fluency (level C) in English language and the duty station’s language, if different.
