Job Role Responsibilities:

  • Provide electrical engineering expertise in support of the design, construction, commissioning, start-up and operation of the ExxonMobil Huizhou Chemical Complex.
  • Provide technical and operational expertise for the day-to-day support of the electrical equipment, systems and infrastructure within the Complex, including:
    -Delivering engineering assessments and design, trouble-shooting and root cause failure analysis, long-term equipment improvement initiatives and engineering solutions to issues in the field, and development of equipment strategies,
    -Interacting closely with the maintenance team and other engineering disciplines,  developing/delivering training as needed, and providing support during Turnarounds, Gas Turbine Generator (GTG) major inspections and other significant activities, and
    -Participating in activities (and leading where necessary) related to safety and risk assessment and in safety incident investigations related to electrical equipment.
  • Understand and apply industry, Company and local site electrical safety concepts, practices and requirements, including shock hazard, arc flash hazard, grounding, isolation and lock-out tag-out (LOTO).
  • Apply Electrical Codes, Standards, and Regulations from Industry (IEC, IEEE / ANSI / API), Country-specific regulations (CSR) and other Local codes,
    -Manage interaction and interface with local regulatory body for Electrical items (Power Company, Electricity Acts, Professional Engineers, Licensed Electrical Workers, Operating and Maintenance safety acts, Temporary power regulation, local stamping requirements, etc.), and
    -Direct or review contractor compliance regarding design.
  • Support project execution in line with Company project management system, including design, cost estimation, equipment criticality rating, project surveillance, EPC design checking, quality assurance, construction techniques, commissioning and start-up.
    -Support screening studies, development of design basis and detailed specifications (e.g. transformer sizing with load growth and diversity factors, simple short circuit calculation and large motor voltage drop calculation, utilization voltages, distribution system, development of one line diagrams, Sub-station layout/noise considerations, UPS (AC and DC) system design, VFD application, System Grounding designs (solid vs resistance), basic lighting, etc.
    -Understand and apply electrical system analysis and work processes, perform studies (e.g. Load flow, Short circuit, transformer sizing, tap settings, relay settings, Large motor voltage drop and Reacceleration studies, IEEE 80 Grounding study, etc.).
    -Design Protection system appropriately for Substations and other electrical equipment including Motors, Transformers, Generator, Lines etc.,
    -Apply equipment sizing techniques and develop ratings, complete data sheets, influence cost effective design, vendor selection, acceptance and surveillance, installation methods, redundancy considerations, etc. for electrical equipment including Transformers, Switchgear and Motor Control Center (MCC), AC and DC Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS), high voltage motor and cables, low and high voltage Variable Frequency Drive (VFD), and miscellaneous equipment (heat tracing, cathodic protection, MOV/EBV, package equipment, etc.).
  • Apply knowledge of power generation systems (GTG Cogen is applicable) and integration with facility power systems, including understanding of design concepts (rating, frame sizes, FSNL run, other mechanical aspects), systems connections and interface with instrumentation, breaker design, Auxiliary systems, Line and Neutral cable and bus duct design, protection system (synchronizing and Island capability), etc.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Bachelor Degree or above in Electrical Engineering (major in Power Engineering) or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years working experience in petrochemical industry, power plant or other relevant industry.
    -Experience with the design, execution, commissioning and start-up of a large-scale capital project with significant power generation (CoGen) and electrical system scope is an advantage,
    -Demonstrated familiarity with industrial standards and local codes,
    -Able to read and interpret electrical drawings, symbols, and schematics and skilled in troubleshooting and performance analysis and ability to solve field problems,
    -Knowledge of Hazardous Area codes to be able to classify areas and specify appropriate equipment; understand both API hazardous Class and IEC Zone concept,
    -Knowledge of Electrical load profile for facilities and its relation to power generation, including contingency conditions, transient conditions and load shedding; sizing and design requirements for emergency or backup generation; characteristics of induction and synchronous generation; utility and intra-plant interconnect implications, restraints and requirements and limitations of generator drivers and impacts on generation system.
    -Ability to size major electrical components (e.g., transformers, starters, cable),
    -Familiarity with selection of voltage levels for varying motor sizes; electrical configuration options (e.g., radial, secondary selective, spot network) and recommends options for project or facility modification, Bus transfer schemes including ATS, fast transfer, residual voltage transfer,
    -Knowledgeable in grounding and lightning protection, and calculations to determine adequacy of equipment ratings/selection (withstand, interrupting, latching),
    -Knowledgeable in design and operation of battery back-up/UPS systems, and
    -Knowledgeable in motor starting methods and reviews application
  • Knowledge, skills and experience in any of the following areas is an advantage:
    -Control and monitoring systems associated with machinery,
    -Package Systems function, interface methods and specification development, and
    -Requirements for lighting levels and different lighting technologies.
  • Experience in international projects, multi-national company (MNC), Wholly Owned Foreign Enterprise (WOFE) or JV is an advantage.
  • Effective team player.
  • Fluent in speaking and writing English.
  • Willingness for 1-2 year’s short-term relocation, if required.
