About the position 
 
The Alliance Bioversity-CIAT is looking for a professional in areas like applied math, statistics, or data analysis careers. The main objective in the position will be to provide support in processing, analysis, and reporting of data results to contribute to the optimization of breeding schemes.

The position will be based in the operations center of the Americas, located in the Campus of Palmira, Colombia.
 
Key Responsibilities 
• Provide support to researchers on data gathering best practices, and experimental designs, ensuring good data analysis and high-quality reports can be performed. 
 
• Generate scientific publications using state-of-art methodologies through collaborative work with other institutions and external partners. 
 
• Contribute to measure the evolution of the breeding pipelines through genetic gain assessment.
 
• Provide statistical solutions to accelerate the decision-making process based on the principles of quantitative genetics.
 
• Develop analysis pipelines for trial data, quality data, and genotypic data to standardize processes in the breeding program.
 
• Provide internal training on statistical solutions procedures for capacity building (guidelines).
 
• Design and plan field trials ensuring statistical procedures can be applied correctly and efficiently.
 
• Accountable for modernizing the breeding program under the Accelerated Breeding Initiative.

• Work closely with the Data Manager to identify and correct errors and add meta information to the database. Interact with field team, quality lab, and genetics lab to analyze the phenotypic and genotypic data, interpret the analysis results and generate reports for group discussion and scientific publications.

Requirements

Qualifications and requirements
 
• Professional in Statistics, Math, or related data analysis careers.
 
• Experience in managing and analyzing data. Especially in Agriculture research.
 
• Understanding of principles of experimental design, linear mixed model, and multivariate techniques.
 
• Programming skills in ‘’R’’, ‘’Python’’ and ‘’SQL’’.
 
• Highly motivated, self-starting, and flexible.
 
• A demonstrated interest in data analysis, visualization, and interpretation.
 
Competences 
 
• Strong desire to work in a research program implementing data-driven decision-making, by integrating genotypic and phenotypic data.
 
• Strong interest in working in a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment.
 
• Demonstrated capacity to prioritize multiple activities and deliver the results or report on time.
 
• Willingness to learn new research approaches integrating traditional and novel tools.

• Intermediate to advance English level (oral and written).
