Internship Objective

Gain expertise in the field of Advocacy, communications, translation as well as using the website and social media platforms as communications tools, through the development and implementation of an effective communication and advocacy strategy for the “Accelerating action for the elimination of child labour in supply chains in Africa” project.

Learning areas

As an intern, you will be exposed to ILO’s conceptual approaches and practical interventions to support child labour elimination in selected supply chains in Africa. You will gain experience in working with the ACCEL Africa teams in Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Malawi, Mali, Nigeria and Uganda. You will benefit from the expertise and experiences of technical team at the Regional Office and will be encouraged to participate in meetings organized by colleagues in other areas of work of the ILO.
Under the overall supervision of the ACCEL Africa project’s Chief Technical Advisor and direct supervision of the M&E and Knowledge Sharing Officer, the intern will gain first-hand knowledge and expertise in ILO Knowledge Management strategies.
The Communication Intern will support the overall communication and advocacy of the project, including the development of communication and advocacy material, social media strategy, development of tools and creation/posting of content communication and advocacy platforms, and others.

Inter alia, duties and responsibilities include:

⦁    Support the development and implementation of a communication and advocacy strategy for the project
⦁    Assist in the drafting of communication materials, including press releases, infographics, and social media content
⦁    Support the organization of meetings, events and workshops related to the project to promote wider cooperation with donors, foundations, the private sector, and government partners
⦁    Supporting the production of the Project’s newsletter.
⦁    Develop content including infographics, images and videos for website and advocacy materials
⦁    Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of communication activities and impact of the project
⦁    Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

Education

⦁    Completed BA or equivalent degree in Communications, Digital communications, journalism, arts, social sciences and/or a related field,
⦁    The candidate must be enrolled in the final year of a graduate degree programme, or in a higher degree programme, in communications, journalism, arts, social sciences and/or a related field, or have completed such programme no longer than one year ago.

Experience

⦁    Relevant work experience (Optional) or knowledge in social media strategy, communication skills such as digital media, social media, graphic design, and photo editing
⦁    Demonstrated interest in communications and advocacy

Languages

The working language in English and French is required.

Competencies

⦁    Excellent writing and verbal communications in English;
⦁    Sufficient knowledge of French to edit, translate and proofread documents;
⦁    Experience working with social media and other communications tools;
⦁    Ability to work effectively in a team and with partners from diverse backgrounds;
⦁    Good analytical and research skills;
⦁    Knowledge of child labour and/or supply chains is an asset;
⦁    Sensitivity to diversity as well as gender equality issues.
