Responsibilities

The Audit Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:
• Reviews various accounting documents and records; computes, calculates and verifies various data;
• Reviews transactions that have financial implications to ensure regularity of receipt, custody and disposal of funds and other financial resources of the United Nations;
• Examines and test-checks financial and/or personnel and/or administrative documents such as personnel documents, travel documents or claims, vouchers, purchase orders, invoices, bank and other reconciliations, verifying footings, extensions and posting, tracing original evidence into the records, personnel;
• Undertakes research /obtain background information related to the subject to be audited;
• Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making;
• Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures;
• Provides support to an Auditor in understanding data structure and process flow in information systems pertaining to an audit subject;
• Reports errors and other findings directly to an Auditor;
• Prepares supporting schedules and reconciliations;
• Organizes and maintains supporting working papers and cross-reference with audit report;
• Performs other duties as may be required such as following up on outstanding recommendations, taking notes during entry and exit conferences;
• Travels as part of an audit team to carry out field audit assignments in a Regional Commission, peacekeeping mission or technical cooperation projects in various countries.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Must have passed the United Nations Global General Service Test (GGST) or an equivalent locally administered test at Offices Away from Headquarters.

Work Experience

  • A minimum of seven years of experience in accounting, finance, administrative services or related area is required;
  • Audit experience is desirable;
  • Experience with specialized audit software is desirable;
  • Prior experience with enterprise resource planning systems is desirable;
  • One year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
