IRC Background:

Founded in 1933, the IRC is a leading nonsectarian, voluntary organization providing relief, protection and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. The mission of the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is to help people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover and gain control of their future. In the U.S.; IRC provides assistance to refugees resettling here through 25 offices operating in 16 states. IRC resettles approximately 11,000 refugees per year and provides numerous program services to assist the refugee from their arrival through citizenship. The IRC in Salt Lake City opened it office in 1994, and provides resettlement services through extended case management to newly arrived refugees for up to 24-months as well as over twenty different programs to educate and empower refugees. 
 

Job Overview:

Spice Kitchen Incubator assists refugees, immigrants, other new Americans, and community members of low-moderate income to plan, launch, scale, and sustain their own food business through free technical assistance, subsidized kitchen time, and market access. The Spice Kitchen Incubator Assistant will be responsible to supporting the SKI team in planning, executing, and evaluating participatory food events, specifically as it relates to promoting SKI businesses for revenue generation and addressing local food access needs. Initiatives include but are not limited to Nourish to Flourish where SKI entrepreneurs will produce meals to provide to food insecure community members and other activities for revenue generation that promote and sustain SKI food businesses. 
Note: this is a temporary, short-term position, scheduled to begin on June 1st, 2021, and end on September 30th, 2021.
 

Major Responsibilities: 

• Assist with the planning and execution of the Nourish to Flourish program, including:
o Work with participating entrepreneurs to develop a price-appropriate menu
o Oversee commercial kitchen rental, hygiene, and sanitary practices
o Track inventory and supplies needed each week
o Facilitate meal pick-up procedures with service provider
o Invoice Nourish to Flourish representative regularly and follow all associated program procedures
o Assist in the kitchen as needed
• Support market opportunities for Spice Kitchen participants including Spice-to-Go and Community Food Boxes:
o Assist with menu development and recipes
o Assist entrepreneur in sourcing ingredients and packaging 
o Adhere to the standard operating procedure for packaging for each type of service
• Support Spice Kitchen staff in managing kitchen and market opportunities
• Support entrepreneurs through outreach and operational support as needed.
• Follow all COVID-19 safety practices for kitchen operations and community engagement.
• Other duties as assigned

Profil

Job Requirements:
• High School Diploma 
• Demonstrated understanding of local food businesses, catering, and logistics. 
• Strong organizational skills including: proven ability to prioritize, plan, and manage time. 
• Motivated, flexible, with ability to work independently.   
• Fluency in written and spoken English, with bi-lingual ability preferred.  
• Ability to communicate with limited-English speakers.  
• Demonstrated multi-cultural experience.
• Valid driver’s license, active insurance policy and access to reliable transportation.
 
Work Environment: 
• Standard office work environment along with travel in and around the service delivery area.
• Ability to safely lift 30lbs.
