Job Description

  • Closely follows the impacts of business activities on financial results and ensures timely, complete, and accurate accounting records and financial reports of all business activities within trading and LNG divisions in the US ;
  • Responsible for leading the monthly, quarterly and annual financial closure (in both IFRS and US GAAP) and reporting and analysis processes, including preparation of financial statements, management ; reports and result commentary and electronic reporting to Total Holdings USA, GRP Trading Teams (Geneva & Paris), and Group Finance ;
  • Coordinates with finance teams in Geneva & Singapore to identify and implement best practices and process efficiencies ;
  • Oversees the timely and accurate periodic reporting to regulatory agencies, including the Railroad Commission of Texas ;
  • Responsible for the daily operational management of treasury, accounting, trading accounting and financial reporting teams ;
  • ensures accurate daily cash forecasting to the Holdings Treasury team for the various entities and approves and releases Wires when necessary ;
  • Develops, implements and enhances the processes, procedures and controls for the treasury and accounting functions ;
  • Coordinates with the business teams across the entities and reporting segments, global process stakeholders and local finance team members on the annual budgeting, forecasting and long-term planning processes ;
  • Responsible for ensuring the successful onboarding of new products for finance to ensure proper accounting and tax compliance ;
  • Coordinates all external audit activities with external auditors ;
  • Coordinate completion of tax activities and requirements for the entities ;
  • Ensures their team is SOX compliant in its execution of its activities ;
  • Controls the maintenance and updates of the accounting system (and all other accounting software), and works with the impacted departments as necessary on planning and execution of such projects ;
  • Participates as TOTAL representative in Financial Committee of GdL a Joint Venture marketing entity in Mexico, and is responsible for the integration of GdL into the reporting processes of the group for planning and budgeting purposes ;
  • Supports the Vice President, Finance on all Finance responsibilities for applicable TOTAL entities.

Context and environment

TGPNA is responsible for the Group’s natural gas, power, LNG, NGL, LPG, Petcoke and Sulphur trading and marketing activities in North America, and is expected to be the largest exporter of LNG from the US in 2021. As a trading company involved in a wide array of product streams, TGPNA is a dynamic and fast paced working environment requiring individuals be able to anticipate, quickly react and adapt to the business needs within set corporate policies and procedures.

The Financial Controller therefore needs to have strong team management and communication skills, harness an ability to think quickly to balance competing priorities and execute appropriate solutions to support the trading activities, while ensuring the teams deliver on the various deadlines of the department (daily, monthly, annually).

Candidate profile

  • Undergraduate degree in a business-related discipline (business administration, accounting, finance) or in mathematical or scientific discipline; CPA or MBA preferred;
  • Seven to ten years of relevant experience including extensive exposure to the energy trading industry or commodities markets, with at least 5 years of experience in management and supervision of staff;
  • Experience in data management and hands-on involvement in system development projects, and process enhancement ;
  • Solid analytical capabilities;
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate work involving several departments both operational and administrative;
  • Project management skills; ability to work both independently and within a team framework, ability to organize and to take initiatives ;
