Overview:

The Social Marketing and Communication (SMC) department within FHI 360’s U.S. Programs is a national leader in applying a science-based approach to social marketing and communication to address public health and other challenges in the U.S. SMC currently implements a diverse portfolio of social marketing, public relations, communication, and training and technical assistance projects in the U.S. that are funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institutes of Health, private associations, and foundations. In the past decade, our team has worked on issues such as diabetes, emergency and pandemic preparedness, obesity prevention, sexual health, HIV/AIDS, cancer, asthma, immunizations, violence prevention, access to health care, and tobacco control and cessation. Job Summary:

The Health Equity Advisor will lead the strategy and approach for addressing and developing training materials, technical assistance (TA), and other resources to address social determinants of health and health equity through marketing and communication across a range of public health projects within the Social Marketing and Communication Department. The Health Equity Advisor will primarily focus on providing support states and local jurisdictions in increasing enrollment and retention into effective diabetes programs including the National Diabetes Prevention Program and diabetes self-management education and support (DSMES) services. This position will lead the integration of health equity and social determinants of health (SDOH), into team training and technical assistance (TA) plans, activities and products.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the project workplan and TA strategy to ensure integration of health equity for the project.
  • Lead inclusion of health equity and SDOH approaches and considerations in the design and delivery of high-quality training through various modes (in-person, online, social media, and mobile) to multiple audiences (state and local health departments, community organization leadership and staff, etc.) in various locations.
  • Assist with developing and delivering high-quality training through various modes (in-person, online, social media, and mobile) in other communication and social marketing topics, with a focus on incorporating health equity and SDOH, to multiple audiences.
  • Deliver TA to support the learning of local, state, and community-based organization teams, including consultation via telephone, email, and in person as well as onsite and web-facilitated training.
  • Develop, write, and edit a variety of materials for diverse audiences including reports, case studies, newsletters, presentations, and content for websites and social media.
  • Provide guidance on the planning and execution of webinars and events.
  • Develop high-quality plans and strategic documents and reports.
  • Provide guidance and act as advisor to team members to achieve project goals in areas of social determinants of health and health equity.
  • Support development of innovative ideas for communication outreach.
  • Review communication/marketing products with a health equity lens.
  • Participate in monitoring and quality control activities across the project, as needed.
  • Contribute to business development activities (evaluating opportunities, leading proposals, recruiting partners, etc.) and contribute to other SMC business development activities as needed.
  • Support performance management and professional development of direct reports, if applicable
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Public Health, Community Health, Health Promotion, Nutrition, or related field.
  • Typically requires 8+ years of public health experience with a focus on health equity or community health.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of concepts and practices related to social determinants of health and/or health equity.
  • Experience in providing technical assistance and/or training to disseminate concepts related to social determinants of health and/or health equity.
  • Ability to establish and lead trusted relationships with internal and external senior leaders.
  • Demonstrate and apply sound judgment to management of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent and demonstrated leadership and management competencies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, positive manner with clients and external partners.
  • Ability to motivate and work well with others.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English.

The expected hiring salary range for this role is listed below. FHI 360 pay ranges represent national averages that vary by geographic location. When determining an offer amount, FHI 360 factors in multiple considerations, including but not limited to: relevant years of experience and education possessed by the applicant, internal equity, business sector, and budget.
