The Public Engagement and Campaigns Division of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking a student intern ideally located in Los Angeles or San Francisco, but other west coast locations may also be considered. Ideally, the intern will be available about 16 hours per week beginning in September until December 2023 (dates and times are flexible). The student will intern closely with the Public Engagement team responsible for digital campaigns and public engagement for the organization, including through digital entertainment advocacy.

Responsibilities: This intern wilassist the team on Public Engagement entertainment projects and contribute to the development of key materials for multi-platform campaigns. The selected candidate will gain skills producing entertainment advocacy assets, conducting research on celebrities, influencers, tv and film projects, and providing administrative assistance. The intern may also have the opportunity to sit-in on high level entertainment advocacy discussions, intersecting with multiple teams across the organization as well as external partners. Students will also have opportunities to attend professional development workshops, and network with other HRW interns, volunteers, and employees. As an HRW intern, students will take skills acquired in school and apply them in a professional setting.  

Qualifications: The intern must be an enrolled undergraduate or graduate student majoring in international relations, political science, film, music, drama, communications, journalism, public policy or a related field for the duration of the internship. Applicants should be enthusiastic, detail-oriented, self-motivated, reliable, creative, and have a strong interest in celebrity culture. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required. Prior experience with talent management, influencer marketing, digital advocacy and campaigning, using major social media platforms, and/or multimedia production is preferred. Internet research skills and familiarity with MS Office programs, such as Word and Excel, are essential.
