The Role

Oxfam International’s Africa Platform is looking for Gender Justice Advocacy and Campaigns Advisor who will be supporting the countries within the continent on the design, development and implementation of the Advocacy and Campaigns work on this pilar. The post holder will provide leadership and policy advice that supports building networks and alliances nationally, regionally and globally, including public campaigning and private lobby efforts. The role will provide strategic policy steer and thought leadership in helping to shape and share the OiA narrative around gender justice, gender in emergencies and women’s rights, and to help link Oxfam’s country-level advocacy work with our global campaigns and networks. The post holder will be responsible for leading the campaigns and advocacy in OiA in this pillar

We’re looking for a person with

  • Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Social sciences, social development or other gender-related fields.
  • Proven track record of developing and delivering policy and advocacy on gender justice work, including gender in emergencies, at a multi-national level, in either public engagement or private lobby contexts (some experience in both preferred)
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Excellent representation skills, including when working with complex advocacy targets.
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills, including in multicultural environments.
  • Proven influencing and negotiating skills with internal and external audiences.
  • Proven experience in working in multi-lateral, regional and/or global settings.
  • A strong network of policy and advocacy contacts across Africa.
  • A clear commitment to the rights agenda, including women’s rights (Oxfam principles).
  • Solid knowledge of Gender Justice and human rights and inequalities in Africa.
  • Some knowledge of global development and rights frameworks.
  • Languages: Excellent English spoken and written and other languages as French are highly desirable.
