Job purpose: 

The emergence of the global COVID-19 pandemic has posed new challenges for already stressed health systems around the world.

The USAID HP + Activity is supporting LMICs to strengthen their health system to respond to the COVID-19 emergency, including capacity building around in-hospital care, improved performance of clinical skills, and infection prevention / control. (CPI).

Many patients require hospitalization, and due to the high-volume overload in the COVID-19 hospitals nationwide, general practitioners and HCW’s of other specialties have been redistributed to COVID-19 wards. It is necessary to provide them with knowledge and technical assistance for the appropriate development of skills so they can provide better quality care to patients admitted with moderate or severe infection. This will reduce morbidity and mortality.

The prioritized skills will be: PCI measures, which are important to reduce infection rates in healthcare personnel, endotracheal intubation, airway support, arterial blood gas analysis, central venous catheterization and mechanical ventilation.

The trainer will be based in Honduras and will work with other consultants from HP + and the Ministry of Health to improve the capacities of members of health teams in the face of the pandemic.

 

Duties and responsibilities: 

In collaboration with HP+ Activity and the MoH, the trainer will undertake the following activities:

  1. Develop the content and facilitators and students guide for the development of 5 core clinical skills: endotracheal intubation and airway management, mechanical ventilation, IPC measures, central venous placement and arterial blood gases sampling/interpretation ;
  2. Provide  up to 5 trainings (virtual and face-to-face) on the development of these skills to frontline health care workers in Honduras.

 

Qualifications:

  • A clinical degree (medical doctor, nurse or equivalent) is required with minimum of 2 years’ clinical experience. Critical Care, Anesthesiologist and IPC specialists ideally ;
  • At least two years’ clinical experience in managing patients with respiratory illnesses, ideally in critical care areas or COVID wards ;
  • Ability to perform fluently in public and convey clear messages ;
  • Basic computer literacy in using (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work alone and in teams and have strong interpersonal communication skills ;
  • A citizen of the target country ;
  • Native Spanish language skills required. A Spanish speaker able to speak English is preferred ;
  • Immediate availability.
