The selected consultant will have the following responsibilities :

  • In collaboration with the WorldFish business development team, manage the process of developing proposals to be submitted to a range of donors and funders. This includes guiding and supporting the development of theories of change / logical frameworks, work plans, and proposal narratives.
  • Comprehensively edit and provide feedback on early or advanced drafts of proposals, and work with various team members to incorporate the feedback provided by proposal stakeholders.
  • Conduct proposal design workshops, with the participation of internal and external stakeholders, and use the workshops as tools for designing strong and competitive proposals.
  • Support identification, screening, and selection of competitive funding opportunities for WorldFish to pursue.
  • Support the development of commissioned proposals which WorldFish may be invited to submit by donors, including collection of technical inputs from scientists and other WorldFish experts.
  • Track relevant donor intelligence and use this to guide decision-making on fundraising and business development at WorldFish.
  • Prepare fundraising and business development reports and analyses for internal stakeholders.
  • Respond to questions and requests from donors regarding current or recent proposals from WorldFish. Ensure on-time collection of internal feedback during proposal reviews by donors, and ensure a coordinated response from WorldFish is delivered to donors on time.
  • Support the management of strategic donor and partner relationships, in collaboration with the business development team and organizational leadership.
  • Additional fundraising and business development tasks as requested by WorldFish.

Requirements

This opportunity might be suitable for you if you have the following skills and qualifications:

  • At least 10 years of experience in fundraising, either to fund research or development, especially for international NGOs. Candidates with experience fundraising for international agricultural development will be at an advantage;
  • Experience writing proposals for large, complex projects on agricultural research or agricultural development, especially in developing countries. Candidates with experience developing proposals related to fisheries and/or aquaculture, as well as candidates with experience developing proposals for major bilateral donors (e.g. USAID) will be at an advantage;
  • Experience managing a fundraising or business development team, including proposal writers.

The selected candidate must be available on short notice to take up this assignment, ideally in early or mid-March 2023. The consultant is expected to work at least 3 days a week. All tasks within this consultancy can be completed remotely. No travel is expected during the 3 – 6month consultancy period.

Please include the name of the client/grantee for each proposal, the funders / donors to whom these proposals were submitted, the year of submission, total financial value of each proposal, and whether or not each proposal was awarded. Please do not list more than 10 proposals in this portfolio summary.
  • A writing sample (maximum 5 pages) from a proposal you developed / wrote in the past, preferably including a theory of change / logical framework / impact pathway section.
