We are looking for Safety Advisor to provide health and safety advice and support to the Mutamba Minerals Project Operations and support the implementation of the Rio Tinto Health and Safety processes and systems within region of accountability.

Reporting to the Superintendent, Environment, you will:

  • Implement the Rio Tinto Health, Safety (HS) standards in order to continue establishing health and safety systems for the Mutumba Minerals Project and to educate and provide technical advice to staff members, consultants and contractors of the project. The implementation of standards aiming zero incidents and zero harm must be the main purpose of this role.
  • Provide leadership and coaching to the Mutamba Mineral Sands Team. Coaching line leaders with regards to application of health and safety systems and processes.
  • Manage the Site Health and Safety Risk Register, facilitating and participating in level 2 and 3 risk assessments and driving continuous improvements on site.
  • Complete the Critical Control Verifications and overseeing Critical Risk Management systems, processes and reporting on site.
  • Develop skills within the project team so that they can manage and assess risks and support internal and external business conformance audits.
  • Implementing and maintaining the Mutamba Mineral Sands health and safety systems in compliance with company and legislative requirements
  • Ensuring all operating and maintenance activities undertaken are designed, planned and carried out in accordance with health and safety systems.
  • Communicate regularly with key stakeholders including site management, supervisors and operational employees regarding safety obligations, plans and performance improvement.
  • Conduct spot audits to monitor success of implementation of the standards and recommend areas of focus and improvement.
  • Provide timely and accurate health and safety reporting as required by Legislation, Rio Tinto Iron and Titanium.
  • A champion of our Rio Tinto Health and Safety standards and policies, ensuring regulatory standards are met.

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor degree of Safety or similar, or relevant industry experience in OH&S;
  • Experience in developing and implementing strategic health programs especially around fatigue, fit for work and mental health and wellbeing;
  • Expertise in Occupational Health and Safety;
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
