Technical Focus 

The position holder project design and implementation of other project to improve preparedness measure for potential disaster risks to food security and livelihoods.

Tasks and responsibilities

•    Planning and implementation

–    Coordinates and actively participates in the design and implementation of DRR activities related to food security livelihoods in the project operation areas.
–    Coordinates the development of detailed implementation plans (DIP) for the key food security and livelihood diversifications and risk reduction measures in project operational areas.
–    Contributes and promotes synergetic coherence of different DRR activities at project level towards achieving sustainable food security and livelihoods.
–    Support the identification of early warning triggers from FAO systems (FSNAU, SWALIM) and local level for producer group to activate anticipatory actions.
–    Support the development of Anticipatory Action menu of actions at project level for agriculture, livestock, and fisheries projects.

•    DRR Capacity Building

–    Leads the capacity needs & DRR assessment for producer groups and cooperative in project operational areas.
–    Leads the development of DRR plans for producer groups and cooperative related to food security & livelihoods diversification and DRR,
–    Coordinates and executes the implementation of capacity building initiatives on DRR with producer groups and cooperatives.
–    Facilitates and organizes local level training on DRR for producer groups and cooperatives.

•    Learning for DRR improvement

–    Identifies/extracts good practices and learning from DRR interventions implementation for further quality improvement of producer group DRR plans.
–    Collect, document, and share lessons/results of the implementation DRR activities to shares good practices and learning within FAO Somalia, govt stakeholders and partners,
–    Organizes forums and experience sharing visits for producer groups and government staff to see DRR in action.
–    Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of the key threats and risk to food security & livelihoods and DRR in the project operational areas.
–    Reviews and keeps current practices on Government of Somalia policies and plans on DRR and ensures an active information flow regarding good practices and application of project standards in the project operation areas.

•    Partnership and Networking

–    Establishes and maintains productive relationships/partnership with district, state, and federal government in relation to DRR in productive sectors.
–    Coordinates and promotes partnership and synergy between different activities and actors operating the project operational area.
–    Works with FAO Somalia agriculture, livestock, and fisheries sectors to scale up good DRR practices within FAO.
–    Represents the FAO Somalia project.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

•    University degree in rural development, Disaster Risk Management, Development Studies, Agriculture, business, economic, social sciences, or related field of studies
•    At least one (1) years of work experience in disaster risk management, rural development & food security projects
•    Working knowledge (level C) of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge (level B) of one of the other two or Arabic, Chinese, Russian. For PSA, working knowledge of English, French or Spanish.
