The Regional Programme and Planning Section, UNICEF East Asia Pacific Regional Office (EAPRO) is seeking an individual consultant to provide data visualization support to the East Asia and Pacific Regional Database. The purpose of this assignment is to build a user-friendly and visually appealing data dashboard using Power BI that integrates diverse data sources and indicators at the regional, subregional, and country levels, allowing UNICEF colleagues and other stakeholders to monitor key indicators, track progress, and identify trends and patterns. By investing in this consultant, UNICEF EAPRO aims to enhance data-driven decision-making, improve program effectiveness, and strengthen accountability and monitoring across the region, ultimately leading to better outcomes for children.

Work Assignment:

The consultancy is expected to be entirely remote/home-based, with no travel required.

I. Review of requirements and current dashboard:

• Work closely with the team to understand the work requirements, scope, and timeline.

• Get access to current resources including Power BI files and relevant data sources.

• Devise a plan outlining further steps and specifying any further requirements from the team including data, design, etc.

II. Data modeling:

• Integrate data from UNICEF data warehouse (SDMX) and other relevant sources (if any) into PowerBI to create a unified and comprehensive dashboard.

III. Dashboard design and data visualizations:

• Review current dashboard design and data visualizations, making any necessary adjustments.

• Create new visualizations, interactive features, and reports within the dashboard as required.

• Design a template report to highlight specific sectoral or thematic analysis to be displayed on a periodic basis.

IV. Testing and optimization:

• Conduct thorough testing of the dashboard for functionality, performance, and responsiveness.

• Optimize the dashboard based on feedback and ensure data accuracy.

V. Knowledge transfer:

• Provide support to colleagues on how to effectively use and navigate the dashboard.

• Conduct training for Planning team focal points on how to use, manage and maintain the dashboard.

• Provide guidance on utilizing the dashboard, performing revisions, and refreshing the data.

VI. Final review and closure:

• Conduct a final review of the Power BI data dashboard with Planning team and Programme sectors colleagues.

• Address any remaining issues or enhancements.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education:

• University degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline.

• Additional certifications in data visualization, business intelligence or Power BI would be a plus.

Experience:

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in developing data dashboards and visualizations using PowerBI.

• Proven track record of successfully delivering PowerBI projects, preferably in the context of international development or social sectors Demonstrated expertise in creating interactive and visually appealing data visualizations, including charts, graphs, maps, and tables. Experience in designing and implementing user-friendly and intuitive navigation structures for data dashboards.

• Strong understanding of data analysis, data modeling, and data integration techniques.

• Proficient in working with complex datasets from multiple sources and performing data cleansing and validation.

• Knowledge of SharePoint is an asset.

• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex data concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

• Previous experience working with UN agencies or international organizations would be an advantage.
