Palladium recruits a Technical Expert on Biosecurity and Pig Farming, Market Development Facility (MDF) – Timor Leste

MDF is funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT). It is implemented by Palladium in partnership with Swisscontact.

In Timor-Leste, MDF promotes economic diversification and poverty reduction through partnerships in agribusiness and tourism. The team also encourages entrepreneurship by providing financial and advisory support to innovative businesses.

MDF is seeking a biosecurity technical expert to provide training and advice to pig farmers and businesses on biosecurity and best practices in pig farming. 

Responsibilities

  • Identifying current rearing practices of pig farmers, including meeting with pig farmers in several municipalities.
  • Providing advice and trainings to pig farmers and businesses on biosecurity including diseases identification, prevention, and control.
  • Providing advice and trainings to pig farmers and businesses on improving pig production through good rearing practices.
  • Developing a training manual for pig farmers and businesses on biosecurity and good rearing practices.
  • Preparing a final report on work completed. The report must include: (i) topics covered in the trainings, (ii) a timesheet of inputs, (iii) training participant attendance lists (sex-disaggregated), (iv) feedback from training participants (both farmers and businesses); and (v) general feedback and recommendations for future work.

Requirements

  • Good knowledge and experience in best practices for pig farming.
  • Good knowledge and experience in biosecurity measures for pig farming.
  • Be based in Timor-Leste
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work in remote, rural areas
  • Good written and verbal communications skills in Tetum or Bahasa Indonesia, or have the support of your own translator.
