Job Purpose

The successful candidate will design, implement and facilitate collaborative research and the delivery of outputs as planned in the One CGIAR NATURE+.

The position will be based in Hanoi, Vietnam with travels to Son La and Lao Cai Provinces and and may only be filled by permanent citizens of Vietnam.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Research Assistant will report to the NATURE+ Focal Point in Vietnam and CIP senior science leaders. Upon successful termination of the consultancy contract, opportunities for further and longer-term engagement through a fixed-term employee contract will be considered. Key responsibilities:

  • Actively collaborate with a team of international researchers, national partners and technicians to execute projects related to nature-based solutions (NBS), agrobiodiversity, seed and food systems
  • Implement, diverse research activities, including field experiments, surveys and participatory research
  • Manage and analyze dataset, visualize, and prepare results to be potentially used in publications
  • Support staff, partners and students and research deliverables
  • Handle data and organize databases
  • Organize capacity building activities, training events and workshops

Qualifications

  • BSc or MSc degree in environmental sciences, agriculture, agroecology, food systems or similar field
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in research for development

Skills Required

Mandatory

  • Knowledge of (agro)biodiversity, food security and/or nature positive solutions;
  • Basic knowledge of research designs, data analysis, statistical analysis and analytical software (MS Excel, R-stats desirable);
  • Stakeholder consultation and coordination skills with diverse actors;
  • Skills to run workshops and participatory research;
  • Proficiency as a communicator with solid team player attributes.
