Org. Setting and Reporting

This position is located in the German Translation Section, Documentation Division, Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM), New York. The German Translation Section provides translation of parliamentary documents from English and other languages into German. The incumbent works under the general supervision of the Chief of Section as appropriate.

Education

A first-level degree from a university or an institution of equivalent status is required.
Job – Specific Qualification.

Passing the relevant United Nations Competitive Examination for German Translators or relevant United Nations language competitive examinations held before 2017 is required.

Work Experience

  • A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in translation is required;
  • Experience in the use of standard computer-assisted-translation (CAT) tools is required;
  • Eight (8) years of work experience within a multilingual setting are required;
  • At least four years of revision experience is required.

Languages

For this position, a perfect command of German, which must be the candidate’s main language, as well as excellent knowledge of English and knowledge of one other official language as assessed in the relevant United Nations Competitive Examination, is required.
