SCOPE OF VOLUNTEER WORK
This year, the IRC in  Charlottesville will be resettling international refugees, from, to name a few, Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of Congo and Syria. HOME, standing for Housing, Outreach, Mentorship and Education, is an innovative program within IRC in Charlottesville and Richmond that helps newly resettled refugees afford the cost of living in Central Virginia while also supporting them with six months of one-on-one mentoring from an American friend. The HOME Mentor volunteer will work with mentors and refugee mentees to facilitate the process. The volunteer will work closely with the Volunteer Coordinator to manage administrative and logistical tasks related to onboarding and supporting mentor volunteers.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
•Gain firsthand experience on how to manage a specific volunteer-support program
•Gain knowledge of each program offered to refugee clients at the IRC
•Become familiar with staff and client needs at the IRC in Charlottesville

RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Coordinate with HOME team members to schedule an orientation
•Set up online timesheet account for HOME team leader
•Organize the first official meeting with mentors and refugee mentees
•Attend first meeting and explain parameters of HOME programing to all parties involved
•Collect any relevant paperwork
•Coordinate and schedule monthly meetings with HOME mentors
•Coordinate with staff and facilitate monthly meetings to present programs at monthly meetings
•Follow up with HOME mentors for reports and timesheets
•Coordinate quarterly potluck picnic for HOME mentors and refugee mentees
•Other duties as assigned by the Volunteer Coordinator
Profil

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•Teaching/mentoring experience

This position reports to the Volunteer Coordinator.
