Job Description

  • Responsible for all logistical elements involved in the physical supply chain of petrochemical movements whether by vessel, parcel tanker, ocean going  within the Middle East and Asia or in a Far East/Americas and Europe  arbitrage.
  • Within the framework of internal procedures, draft and send commercial contracts and confirmations, ensuring data consistency.
  • Evaluate/estimate and record all costs derived from a transaction in the risk management system & communicate all operational data having financial impact on the trading results on a timely basis (pricing pivots, inspection, freight, demurrage, storage, book out, circle out… etc.).
  • Interface with third party storage terminal activities regarding companies inventory & movements.  Reconcile end of month terminal reports with internal inventory position recording monthly inventory gains and losses (mass balance reconciliation). 
  • Supply of our TOTAL Petrochemicals plants in China.
  • Supply and maintain all required documentation in compliance with internal procedures and governmental regulations relating to importation, exportation/freight forwarding,  SDS compliance, etc.
  • Settle trade related invoices and on a timely basis, optimize cash flow while adhering to contractual due dates.
  • Ensure that the vetting procedures for seagoing vessels and barges are respected .
  • Nominate the service providers essential to the realization of the contracts (independent inspectors/agents…) and control the accuracy and consistency of the obtained results.
  • Obtain financial guarantees from counterparts, control and/or amend them before cargo loading/unloading, in coordination with the Credit department. Specific knowledge of R&C and T&S Credit procedures is essential.
  • Identify the cause/s of operational problems encountered and activate the procedures necessary to their solution in coordination with all involved participants (immediate superior/Trading/legal/insurers/etc…), at minimal costs and consequences to the Group.
  • Invoice customers and pay our suppliers/service providers.
  • Secure, in coordination with Financial Department (Treasury, Credit, Financial Control, Accounting), the recovery of funds due (invoicing late payment interests…).

Context and environment

The jobholder reports to the Trading Operations General Manager of the Singapore Office, and works in liaison with the trading operations in Houston and in Geneva, under the local supervision of the Managing Director of the Singapore office.

  • Fast-paced, dynamic trading environment with time-sensitive, business critical activities.
  • Potential conflicts between the Group and third parties – terminals, customers, suppliers, trading, and shipping.
  • Demanding and continuous demand during nights, weekends and holidays.

Candidate profile

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher education with 3 years of solid experience in petrochemicals trading operations (paraxylenes, xylenes)
  • Rigorous, curious, reactive, commercially minded and resourceful.
  • Strong ability to anticipate and mitigate risks and take initiatives in proposing alternative solutions to issues.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills, keen attention to details.
  • High capacity to work with limited supervision. Team player with strong initiative.
