Job Overview:

With the support of the Financial Capability Program Manager, the Financial Capability Coordinator will support clients’ financial capability needs by coordinating and conducting group trainings, workshops and individual financial counseling and coaching sessions for refugees and immigrants, and by becoming a certified financial coach. This position is responsible for implementing and strengthening an effective financial literacy curriculum that supports the acquisition of knowledge, skills and tools necessary to engage constructively with the American financial system. This is a full time, regular term position.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates, adapts, and maintains financial education curriculum and classes.
  • Coordinates and provides one-on-one consultations and coaching to help participants with personal and household financial matters.
  • Coordinates with Small Business teams to provide financial coaching to refugee and new American Small Business owners
  • Serves as a certified Financial Coach (will receive certification training in first 6 months of employment)
  • Works with clients to review personal credit history and helps support credit improvement activities.
  • Acts as local support for applying for and following up on credit-building and consumer loans given to clients through the Center for Economic Opportunity (CEO).
  • Coordinates with financial capability partners and volunteers, including financial institutions, other donors, and the wider community.
  • Conducts outreach for community-based financial education and financial capability events.
  • Supports annual VITA tax preparation services targeted to refugees and new Americans.
  • Maintain professionalism, customer service, and IRC Way ideals when working with the community;
  • Participate in program meetings, weekly staff meetings, staff development activities and national skills building trainings, calls, and communities of practice, while fully engaging as a member of the team;
  • Support general office logistics, such as office support and front desk, as applicable and feasible;
  • Comply with all policies, procedures, and protocols of the organization;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree, or equivalent professional experience, in Business, Small Business Development, Finance, Entrepreneurship, Education, or related field, preferred.

Work Experience:

  • 2 years of professional experience working in, finance, basic financial literacy, entrepreneurship, or small business development preferred;
  • Experience with adult education, training, community building, and/or community development;
  • Previous experience working with individuals from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds and varying levels of literacy and numeracy;
  • Experience working in a direct service role preferred;
  • Experience and training in trauma-informed and person-centered services.

Demonstrated Skills & Competencies:

  • Knowledge of and ability to conduct trainings on basic financial literacy and goal setting;

  • Strong organizational skills including: multi-tasking, prioritizing, planning, and effective time management;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to make presentations required;
  • Demonstrated skills with reporting and tracking information in a database;
  • Ability to work independently as well as on a close, collaborative team;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, with bi-lingual ability in a language commonly spoken by refugees in Salt Lake City, such as Arabic, Swahili, Kirundi, or Somali preferred;
  • Ability to communicate with limited-English speakers, and demonstrated multicultural experience;
  • Ability to work with refugee participants, community leaders, community partners and volunteers from a variety of backgrounds;
  • Competency in Microsoft Office required; additional technical skills an asset;
  • Valid driver’s license, active insurance policy and access to reliable transportation.
