The Economic Growth Center (EGC) is Yale’s hub for economics research and teaching on issues concerning lower-income economies and advancement of their populations. A new Markets and Development research initiative at EGC will bring together methods and questions of Industrial Organization, Trade and Development economics to produce a deep understanding of developing-country markets based on micro-empirical evidence and local institutions, and also extended to a broad set of market design and policy issues.

Within this context, the EGC is now offering a Post-doctoral Fellowship for recent graduates of Ph.D. programs in economics to work alongside EGC Faculty to support the development of this initiative. Fellowships provide an opportunity for new PhD’s to focus on developing a strong research program in a stimulating, collegial environment alongside the faculty of EGC and the Department of Economics at Yale University. Supervising Faculty for the initiative include Lauren Falcao Bergquist, Penelopi Goldberg, Amit Khandelwal and Nicholas Ryan.

Applicants must have completed their Ph.D. prior to the beginning of the fellowship. Fellows are expected to be present in the EGC facilities three full days per week, contribute to EGC research and publications in the area of markets, trade and development, support and participate in activities related to the Markets and Development Initiative and participate in seminars and conferences at Yale. Resident fellows are expected to reside in the New Haven area.

The Resident Fellowships will start with the 2023-24 academic year and last for one year. The fellowship may be renewable if funding allows. Fellows receive a salary of USD 70,000 per year plus Yale benefits, a travel/research stipend, and office space.

Applications should include the following:

• A cover letter indicating your interest in the Post-doctoral Fellowship in Markets and Development and briefly describing your research interests
