Education

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in law, preferably with a specialization in public international law is required. A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience

A minimum of fifteen years of progressively responsible experience in the field of public international law is required.

At least 5 years of management experience in the UN system or comparable international organization or multilateral context is required.

Experience in supervision of staff in an international multilateral institution is required.

Extensive experience and a thorough understanding of the United Nations system is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in both English and French is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
