Job Description

Within Shipping Department, the Shipping Operations team is in charge of the execution and operational day to day management of time charter parties (TCP) for owned, co-owned vessels and more generally all LNG vessels chartered by the group being employed as LNG Carrier or FSRU/FSU.
Manage Bunker purchase (up to 2.5 MUSD) for the LNG carriers of the fleet.
Prepare and manage operational claims related to the TCP execution in coordination with Shipping Commercial Manager and support Head of Shipping Operations.
The Shipping Operations Manager will oversee a pool of vessels to be followed on day to day basis.
Activities : 

  • Day to day operational management of time charter parties and relationship with ship owners/ship managers.
  • Anticipate and organize all bunker operations for its pool of vessels as well as inspection survey (quantity and quality) taken into account current overall schedule and potential deals. Follow up of dispute with the broker in case of contention.
  • Manage commercial follow up of shipping agent contracts and other ship services providers (inspection, brokers etc…)
  • Identity and report all insurance related matter (High risk area, condition of use, site safety etc…) which are then dealt in collaboration with insurance department.
  • Review and validate the sale and purchase agreement for LNG (spot, mid-term, long term) and time charter parties on shipping parts and provide assistance to Shipping Commercial during TCP negotiations.
  • Implement terms and conditions of any new time charter party negotiated by Shipping Commercial team
  • Take inventory of incidents and near miss incidents and report to management and manage with ship owners during off hire event in conjunction with Shipping Commercial.
  • Prepare and follow up internal sub charters in relation with Shipping Commercial team
  • Monitor performances of its pool of vessels and compliance with TCP. Follow performances calculation and prepare claims when required with good understanding of how the vessels are running to be able to challenge figures and identify inconsistencies.
  • Provide assistance and propose optimization for all shipping aspects (consumption, routing, ship’s constraints etc…) to Operations and Trading Departments
  • Ensure ship shore compatibility studies fulfilment in relation with ship owners/ship manager and terminals. Provide support where required.
  • Ensure rules and regulations are followed in ports and report any modification with potential impact on operations.
  • Organize dry-docks in collaboration with ship owners and in light of ship’s schedule and in compliance with time charter parties to minimize costs for the group.
  • Organize and follow up SIRE inspections for the fleet and ensure that all ships are properly vetted and approved by Total Vetting team.
  • Validate shipping cost incurred during ship’s voyages and liaise with back office team to ensure invoice payment
  • Liaise with Shipping Commercial (analyst) and Shipping Technical for preparation of budget and audits with Ship Owners
  • Collect Environmental data for the fleet and issue quarterly dashboard. Ensure calculation and reporting of fleet emission in the framework of Sea Cargo Charter. Be the focal point of contact to address environmental requests for the fleet (score card, emission, zero carbon projects etc…)
  • Follow up technical problems with vessels in collaboration with GRP – Asset department with good understanding of issues and consequences. Discuss with Owners mitigations and be source of proposal.
Accountabilities :
The Shipping Operations Manager is the focal point of contact with ship owners to ensure ship’s availability and that vessels can comply with voyages set by Operations and Trading Departments.
Shipping Operations Managers are in contact with the vessel managers and large variety of interlocutors worldwide while staying in close relationship with the Shipping Commercial Department, Technical and Total Vetting team, as well as Operations and Trading Department for day to day business. The job holder is therefore the key interface between above mentioned teams and departments.

  • Shall be able to interact with persons without shipping knowledge, to make himself understood and convey key messages

Candidate profile

  • Master degree, engineer with shipping knowledge if possible or ex shipping operator or ex seafarer of LNG Carrier preferably and ideally with knowledge of contracts structure. You have minimum of 3 years of professional experience in one of these relevant field/function
  • Capable to understand and manipulate technical subjects in day to day
  • Capable read/understand legal documents (TCP, contracts).
  • Capable to manage a lot of information and to prioritize tasks in a moving environment
  • Capable to well manage under pressure and to adapt to business
  • Able to anticipate issues and provide solutions
  • Autonomous, rigorous, business oriented, good relationship, well organized and pro active
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken)
