Job Description

To support Total’s ambitions and growth on biofuels, we have decided to create a new role within our trading operations team.

We would be looking for a multifaceted individual that can grow and learn within a trading environment and be the link between many stakeholders at all level of the organisation.

As a Customs & Regulatory Specialist, you will hold a key position, providing essential analysis on the international regulatory environment that is in constant evolution with significant financial impacts.
You will be closely working with the traders (front office), the trading support teams (Operations, Legal, Tax, Customs etc..) and with various external counterparties. You will be evolving in fast-paced, dynamic trading environment with time-sensitive, business critical activities requiring 24/7 responsiveness.

Your responsibilities will typically include:

  • Act as the Trading & Shipping (T&S) Ops point of contact regarding all topics related to Customs & regulations especially on BioFuels and Bio FeedStock (including but not limited to VegOils and Animal Fat). Bring its expertise and technical support to the various departments.
  • Provide full Ops support to Front office about feasibility studies, business assessments and confidential projects.
  • Assist the teams on the analysis, interpretation and operational application of regulations, address risk and leverage customs opportunities.
  • Ensure that any matters related to Customs and sanitary regulations are reviewed and addressed in a timely and efficient manner
  • Support and analyse litigation files related to customs and regulations and ensure their resolution in coordination with the teams, in the best interests of the group.
  • Regulatory watch of related legislation and any developments affecting customs, regulation and sanitary processes, and update existing guidelines to integrate them within T&S activities.
  • Create and develop processes and modus operandi to ensure that the customs and sanitary activities are handled with high accuracy and timely manner by the organisation.
  • Provide competent and timely support and expertise to project working groups, identify and define requirements, scope and objectives related to the activity
  • Propose, collect and implement initiatives to improve operational performance and report to management.

Objectives:

  • Provide expertise to ensure the feasibility of the commercial objectives on customs and regulatory aspects with a focus on Biofuels businesses.
  • Follow, analyse and popularize with T&S teams European and international regulations, leverage opportunities.
  • Support and contribute to projects related to the development of Biofuels activities
  • Promote and maintain within T&S a high level of knowledge necessary for the development and management of activities (especially BioFuels) related to international customs and sanitary regulations

Candidate profile

  • Minimum experience of 3-6 years in the field of Customs and Sanitary Regulations associated with the logistics of BioFuels and Bio FeedStocks (VegOil, Animal Fat,…).
  • A legal qualification will be considered as an advantage as the jobholder must be able to analyze and digest regulations texts.
  • A previous experience working in the Customs department of a Big 4 firm will be highly considered
  • Technical knowledge of custom compliance including customs valuation, classification, origin, customs processes and export control and in Sanitary Regulation at an international level.
  • Ability to grasp the big picture perspective. Good analytical skills, good command of IT tools
  • Strong organizational skills, good commercial instinct, solution-oriented attitude, collaborative mind-set, rigor, proactivity.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, at ease in transversal relations, pedagogic approach
  • Fluent in English and French, both oral and written, any other language considered as a plus.
