Job Description

  • Promote a culture of speaking up, transparency and risk management within the organisation.
  • Analyze the operational risk events in order to identify root causes and risk drivers.
  • Collaborate with all departments and locations of the organisation.
  • Support the implementation of mitigation measures in order to prevent errors or fraud on physical and financial transactions.
  • Collaborate with IT to improve software for the trading and risk control activities and ensure alignment with the operational risk framework.

Activity :

  • Apply the operational risk policy and contribute to improve it
  • Analyze risk events and perform forensic and root cause analysis
  • Develop and maintain operational risk indicators and put in place the proper toolset to produce the risk indicators;
  • Utilise mathematical and statistical knowledge to develop and maintain operational risk indicators
  • Explore the existing operational risk events database and put in place analytical tools in order to extract trends and patterns
  • Recommend improvements to prevent these risk events from re-occurring in future and to address patterns and trends.
  • Monitor the implementation of action plans.
  • Assist the principal Risk Owners with the identification of key risk indicators in their operations.
  • Organize and animate feedback sessions on operational risk events with the relevant teams.
  • Prepare and present reports to the Business and the Management.
  • Assist and contribute to accelerate the implementation and deployment of processes and systems improvements.

Context and environment

The Trading Division is responsible for the development and the management of a portfolio of commercial outlets for natural gas, natural gas liquids, shale gas, liquefied natural gas, power, emissions certificates, and dry bulk products in Europe, the United States and Asia.
The position holder works within the Operational Risk department and interacts with all the trading organization. The fast-paced trading environment requires the jobholder to be able to work autonomously and within the team. Position requires daily interaction with other departments within the organization notably Front Office, Middle Office, Finance and Compliance. Industry and contractual deadlines have be respected, requiring good ability to plan and work under time pressure.
Purpose :

  • Responsible for the reporting and analysis of operational events affecting the business
  • Promote the operational risk approach, transparency and risk management within the organization
  • Produce the proper analysis and reporting of key operational risk events affecting the business
  • Contribute to making the trading operations more efficient and resilient by analyzing and fixing operational issues
  • Promote the change and adoption of new process, tools and systems improvements

Candidate profile

  • University educated to degree level – a numerical discipline is an advantage – or higher;
  • Experience in physical commodity trading; Good knowledge of the energy industry.
