Job Purpose

The incumbent will contribute to the implementation of research activities of the OneCGIAR Gender Equality (HER+) Initiative in India/ Asia. The first business cycle of HER+ extends from April 2022 to March 2025. The incumbent will support planning, implementation and reporting of activities of work package 2 in Asia, which focuses on socio-technical innovation bundling (STIBs) for women’s resilience and empowerment in the context of climate change. The research focuses on developing, testing and evaluating context-specific STIBs in selected learning labs; Designing and testing pathways and processes for enhanced uptake of STIBs by women and; developing a toolbox with guidance for designing, implementing and evaluating STIBs.

The incumbent will closely with the Senior scientist and work package team across Asia and Africa, supporting the design, implementation, monitoring and reporting of the Work Package in Asia

This position is based at Bhubaneswar, India and is only open for the permanent residents of India.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support and contribute to research on design and deployment of STIBs with a focus on gender, youth and social inclusion in agri-food systems in Asia;
  • Support the development of toolbox;
  • Lead literature reviews and produce reports;
  • Support design and implementation of quantitative and qualitative surveys and ensure data quality;
  • Lead data analysis and reporting;
  • Contribute to development of communication products;
  • Support delivery of outputs and outcomes aligned with HER+ WP2;
  • Support partnership building with research and development partners;
  • Support development progress and technical reports;
  • Support development of relevant communications materials including powerpoint presentations;
  • Contribute to articles in peer-reviewed journals;
  • Perform any other relevant duties as assigned by supervisor from time to time.

Qualifications

Masters or PhD in Rural Sociology, Gender Studies, Anthropology, Feminist Economics, Development Economics, Development Studies, Agricultural Economics, Institutional Economics, Geography or related field.

Masters Degree with  3-4 years of experience in Gender R4D in agriculture or food systems in Asia.

Skills Required

Mandatory: 

  • Deep and sound grounding in theoretical and analytical frameworks and concepts of gender and social equity;
  • Excellent Written and Oral communication skills in English;
  • Strong quantitative and/or qualitative analytical skills, with keen interest in and experience with mixed methods ;
  • Evidence of scientific writing skills;
  • Evidence of communication products;
  • Experience of working with R&D partners nationally;
  • Experience with Ag R4D and reporting;
  • Sound interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural and multidisciplinary team.

Preferred : Experience working on Gender R4D and evidence generation in Asia.
