About the Position

The Technical Officer (Aquaculture) will support in implementation of the WorldFish program in the state of Odisha in general and assigned to a specific project, in particular, ensuring that the objectives of the project and the deliverables/results are achieved in time and with quality. S/he will provide handholding support to the stakeholders including Women SHGs, fish farmers, fisheries cooperatives and fishery entrepreneurs along the fish value chain in coordination with the officials of the project partners including Government line Departments, Research institutes, Universities, NGOs, private companies etc. in order to achieve the objectives and goals of the project.

The Person

The successful candidate will:

  • Support the fisheries development program of WorldFish in the assigned districts of Odisha by providing required technical knowledge and skills in aquaculture technologies and systems to the stakeholders.
  • Prepare district and sub-district (block) level project implementation plan in close consultation with concerned officials and stakeholders.
  • Provide technical support to the partner organization to implement project activities in the project locations as per the plan and in time-bound manner in overall coordination, especially with local staff of partner organizations.
  • Provide support to partner organization for identification and final selection of suitable beneficiaries.
  • Organize and conduct technical trainings and provide hand-holding support to stakeholders for skill upgradation in aquaculture aspects.
  • Facilitate district and state-level exposure visits for beneficiaries and officials of partner organizations.
  • Assist the stakeholders / beneficiaries to prepare individual bankable Detailed Project Report (DPR) using standard template for applying to bank finance and availing other Government benefits.
  • Provide technical inputs to prepare various IEC (information, education and communication) materials.
  • Build rapport and strong network with local players in the fish value chain for improving the value chain efficiencies in fisheries sector.
  • Participate in field surveys conducted by WorldFish in collaboration with partner organizations.
  • Attend regular project review meetings with proper field information.
  • Prepare “Success stories” from project implementation areas on quarterly basis.
  • Prepare monthly progress report from the concerned districts in standard format.
  • Attend any other duties as assigned by the Associate Project Manager.

Requirements

This job might be for you if you have the below skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Fisheries Science / Zoology / Life Sciences.
  • At least 2 years of experience working with fish farmers, fishermen cooperatives, fishery entrepreneurs Women SHGs etc.
  • Commercial Aquaculture technologies and systems for various species including Carps, Tilapia, Pangasius, Giant freshwater prawn etc.
  • Experience in working and mobilizing partnerships with local farmers, governments, civil society, cooperatives, NGOs.
  • Good communication and extension skills in Odia or Hindi language.
  • Possess a keen interest to travel extensively to work with communities for their developmental impacts.

Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skill and fluency in Odia or Hindi and English languages.
  • Fair knowledge of computer usage for day-to-day works (MS Word, MS Excel. MS Power Point).
