Overview

Resilience Food and Land Use System (ReFoLUS) Researcher leads the development of food security module and related land use modelling including method development, testing, dan dissemination within national dan local level. Food Security and

Land Use Modeling Specialist works within a team of ecologist, modeller, land use planning specialist, economist, and social scientist to improve Land Use Planning for Multiple Environmental Services (LUMENS) facilities, and contribute in development of various NRM tools and other related application. ReFoLUS Researcher also to develop, test and implement the tools in many areas. As part of the task ReFoLUS Researcher also contribute on capacity strengthening process for food security, climate mitigation and adaptation, and sustainable development. The responsibility is not limited to handling Indonesia works but encompass other countries in the region when the technical tools are interchangeable and when there are any opportunities. This position requires quality assurance to meet standards and timelines. The researcher is also contributed to collaborate with internal and external partners that vary from multidisciplinary scientists, project beneficiaries, government at local and national levels and other multistakeholder. This position also supervises assistants, consultants, and/or interns/students in the related interest. He/she is to contribute, if not lead, resource mobilization efforts, as opportunities arise.

Duties and responsibilities

Research

  • Lead the team of food security and land use simulation and collaborate with tool developer to produce high-quality computer-based tools for sustainable landscape management.
  • Design, develop, test and finalize computer-based tools and information system for food security and other land use modelling as one of the main deliverables for projects in CIFOR-ICRAF Indonesia.
  • Work closely with team of multidisciplinary researchers to develop documentation processes of all natural resource management tools and e-learning platform for user friendly access.
  • Technical backstopping to partners and users of the food security and related natural resource management tools in Indonesia and other country in Southeast Asia.
  • Contribute in further development of LUMENS facilities include new module as required by various research project, particularly this will include the development of food security and climate change mitigation an adaptation modules.
  • Test and finalize the tools through capacity strengthening programs conducted in several provinces in Indonesia. This will include leading the programmer team in providing technical backstopping to various government agency at national and provincial level.

Project Management

Coordinate and manage various research output and activities under bilateral projects.

Unit management and supports

  • Engage in implementation of research ethics, partnership management, and project research data management.
  • Supervise assistants, consultants, and/or students working on Remote Sensing and spatial analyses

Partnership, networking and capacity building

  • Maintain partnership with project beneficiary, partners and donors as necessary
  • Attend meeting, seminar, and event to represent ICRAF and maintain communication with collaborators and partners related to specifics works.

Other Responsibilities :

  • Identify and mitigate potential risks within your work area;
  • Take reasonable care of own occupational health and safety and that of others as obliged by CIFOR-ICRAF’s Occupational Health and Safety Policy and cooperate with CIFOR-ICRAF in complying with requirements under any statutory health and safety provisions of relevant Country laws;
  • Participate in (insert team as appropriate) projects as may be required.

Education, knowledge and experience

  • Minimum master’s degree in computer programming, information and technology, NRM, geography, environmental science, forestry, and other related fields;
  • Vast and strong knowledge on programming language such as Java, Python or C++;
  • Strong knowledge on open-source software;
  • Strong programming and analytical skills;
  • At least 5 years’ experience as leading tools development or related position in international or reputable in organization;
  • Experiences in developing science-based negotiation support tools for sustainable landscape management;
  • Competent and experience in computer application development.
