Peace Winds Japan (PWJ) is a Japanese Non-Governmental Organization established in 1996. PWJ has been providing humanitarian and development assistance for people affected by forced displacement and natural disasters in more than 20 countries in the world.

PWJ launched its mission in Kenya in 2012 and has been implementing projects funded by UN agencies and the government of Japan in shelter, WASH and youth development to improve living environments of refuge and host populations while promoting peaceful coexistence and self-reliance in the communities in Dadaab, Kakuma and Kalobeyei.

PWJ is UNHCR partner responsible for WASH, Warehouse, motor vehicle service Unit, centralized fleet and fuel management for Dadaab Refugee Operations & Kakuma Refugee Operations.

PWJ in partnership with the UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund) and the Government of Japan is implementing a project to strengthen sexual reproductive health (SRH) services, and response to gender-based violence (GBV) in Turkana, Garissa, Mandera, and Marsabit Counties of Kenya. To ensure an effective and efficient implementation of this project, PWJ is seeking to recruit 2 Program Field Assistants to be based in Turkana County and Garissa County.

JOB OVERVIEW:

The Programme Field Assistant will be responsible for ensuring that the planned activities are implemented according to the assigned budget, time and PWJ internal procedures. The incumbent will be expected to work closely with PWJ partners, government departments during the delivery of interventions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in the processes for needs assessment, purchase, transportation, storage, assembly, and distribution, and post-distribution monitoring of dignity kits.
  • Participate in the identification of project beneficiaries, documentation of assistance to account for resources, and post-support monitoring follow ups.
  • Participate in the identification, selection, and capacity building of community groups and emergency service providers under this project.
  • Facilitate the logistical arrangements for learners and facilitators to attend and participate in training sessions e.g organizing necessary transportation, venues, learning materials, equipment, facilities, meals, and refreshments.
  • Conduct field level monitoring follow ups and participate in stakeholder engagement forums.
  • Facilitate requests, issuance, delivery, proper utilization, and accountability for project resources.
  • Document the project through record keeping and activity reports.
  • Support planning and implementation of sporting, cultural, and community sensitization events.
  • Discharge any other duties as assigned by the supervisor from time to time.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in a relevant technical subject relating to project management, community development, public health, supply chain management, or training and vocational education. Bachelor or higher degree/s will be an added advantage
  • At least 1 years’ field experience in implementing technical or/and relevant humanitarian or/and development projects.
  • Proven facilitation skills and participatory community development skills.
  • Sound report writing skills including clear presentation and interpretation of data and justification of needs, approaches, and quality of results.
  • Good digital literacy and record keeping skills.
  • Experience in dealing with partners and government officials will be an added advantage.

Other knowledge, additional competences

  • Good knowledge of English language and Kiswahili is desired.
  • Sensitivity in handling and disposing of documents which may be important.
  • Reliability, Honesty, Innovativeness and good organizational skills.
  • Commitment to and understanding of PWJ Vision, Mission and Values.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • English: Professional Fluency.
  • Kiswahili: Native/Advanced.
