About the role

We are excited to be recruiting for a Safeguarding Lead which is a pivotal role within the organisation to provide oversight of all aspects of safeguarding across HALO.

Reporting to the HR Director, this is an opportunity for you to be at the heart of bringing HALO’s mission to life and we need someone who is passionate and has the purpose to make a massive difference, at pace and in an ever-changing environment.

As the Safeguarding Lead, you will work closely in partnership with all HALO team members. The Safeguarding Lead is responsible for ensuring that all programmes and departments are appropriately trained and audited on an annual basis for all safeguarding matters.

You will support all safeguarding leads across HALO programmes, designing and delivering country appropriate safeguarding training to ensure cases are dealt with appropriately and sensitively.

From the outset, the Safeguarding Lead will need to review our current procedures that we have in place to manage incidents and what we have learnt to date. From this, you will have the opportunity to design and implement improvements to the online safeguarding modules in addition to working with recruitment and safeguarding leads in regions to ensure best practice is in place across all areas. You will also be required to participate in safeguarding cases where required and be a key point of contact for regional leads when needed.

The successful individual will be comfortable with data and see the benefits of data being able to inform and direct future decisions, so collating safeguarding statistics on a quarterly basis to tell the story, and aid decision making will be a requirement of the role.

Compliance and continuous improvement is really important to us at HALO, and we’d be looking to you to conduct regular and timely reviews of safeguarding policies, processes, and practices, to ensure they are being implemented and monitored. You will lead the annual refresher training design and implementation for all HALO UK and international teams.

The nature of our global operation means that the Safeguarding Lead role will have a global remit, and this means that the successful candidate will need to travel overseas frequently to our global programmes. When not travelling, the role can be home based in the UK or globally.

Above all you will be passionate about The HALO Trust as an employer and dedicated to the importance of safeguarding across our talented workforce.

You’ll be part of a passionate wider HR team who love what we do, particularly in a sector that provides challenge and reward in equal measure. Whilst we are not clearing mines ourselves, it is such a boost knowing that we as a team are recruiting talent that is making a difference to people’s lives around the world.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Have proven experience of leading safeguarding in the humanitarian sector, across a diverse workforce.
  • Evidence of international experience / awareness of cultural differences would significantly help given the need to account for local interpretation and societal norms across programmes.
  • Have previously designed safeguarding training and strategies and evidence of successful implementation.
  • Extensive safeguarding experience or qualification
  • Resilient with the ability to adapt in a complex, fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Excellent communicator who can build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.

If you’re the type of person we’ve just described and believe that you’ll be able to bring your Safeguarding experience and continue to flourish at HALO, then we can’t wait to receive your application.

Please submit a CV (no more than 2 pages) and a cover letter (no more than 1 page) outlining how your experience matches the key skills and competencies required by 27th April 2023. We reserve the right to amend the closing date depending on the number of applications received.
