Criminal Record Checks: addressing queries and provide guidance on criminal record checks, serving as the main point of contact. Assessing our staff and volunteer roles against the right level of criminal record check by liaising with the relevant stakeholders and relying on own knowledge in this area.
Visa Sponsorship: assessing role’s eligibility and individual’s circumstances to qualify for skilled worker sponsorship visa. Offering advice on visas and sponsorship, manage visa applications, and maintain accurate records for staff on skilled worker visas. Requiring a strong knowledge in the area of sponsorships and the use of Sponsorship Management Systems.
Policy Review and Maintenance: creating, reviewing, and keeping our workforce policies and procedures up to date. You’ll also provide guidance to managers on how to apply these policies effectively.  Your tasks will also involve maintaining the people policy site, monitoring its usage, and actively participating in internal working groups to shape and develop policies and procedures.
A day in the life of a People Policy Officer will involve:
  • Providing advice and guidance on criminal record checks and visa sponsorships, to managers, staff and volunteers, identifying the right procedures needed.
  • Identifying and analysing the need for updates in workforce policies based on internal and external factors.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to develop clear and effective policy changes, reflecting agreements within the policy team.
  • Updating procedures and guidance materials to align with policy updates, ensuring timely completion of documentation.
  • Keeping the RedRoom Intranet site up to date with all people policies and supporting documents.
  • Improving the Intranet site to make it user-friendly and aligned with the people policy team’s strategy.
  • Coordinating with external agencies and attend meetings to identify issues and promote improvements in criminal record check processes.
To be a successful People Policy Officer, you’ll need:
  • A good understanding/knowledge of criminal records checks, right to works checks and visa sponsorships, across the UK.
  • To have a solid grasp of UK employment law, HR best practices, skilled worker visas, and right to work legislation.
  • Top-notch interpersonal skills, allowing you to build strong relationships with others.
  • The ability to work independently with initiative, but also thrive as part of a collaborative team.
  • Analytical abilities that shine as you dig into information, draw conclusions, and suggest improvements.
  • To be able to websites, HR systems, and tools like MS Office Suite.
