Summary
Save the Children’s Global Movement strives to minimize the impact of climate change on children’s learning and wellbeing. The Climate Change, Education and Child Protection Senior Advisor will provide institutional, technical, and strategic guidance and support to the global mitigation and adaptation work within education and child protection (CP) programming. You will analyze evidence to identify innovation and application of climate adaptive programming that addresses the impacts of climate change on CP and education. Your technical assistance will increase the implementation of climate-informed and adaptive strategies. You will lead technical design of climate-related strategies within education and CP proposals, including the Green Climate Fund and Global Partnership for Education (GPE) proposals. You will reference complementary frameworks and the Education & Climate Theory of Change developed by Save the Children (SC). You will work across sectors to support the design and implementation of high-quality climate resilient education and CP programming.

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Mobilize Resource: Public and Private (35%)
• Lead technical design of education and/or CP strategies within Green Climate Fund and GPE’s Climate Smart initiative; contribute to realizing the organization’s vision, strategy and operational plans to mitigate the impact of climate change on education and CP
• Provide technical expertise on proposals to integrate climate adaptation or mitigation strategies into education and CP program design
• Develop long-term funding strategies for SC’s technical and programming priorities in climate change and education/CP
• Establish and maintain new/existing relationships with key climate donors and strategic climate partners through formal Save the Children United States (SCUS) and Save the Children International (SCI) platforms
• Align SC technical staff with climate donor priorities and application processes.
• Establish processes and metrics for ensuring education and CP programs are climate-informed during proposal design

Provide Technical Leadership (35%)
• Serve as a principal expert on the impact of climate change on education and CP within SC globally
• Collaborate with SCUS and SC movement colleagues to define the vision, strategy and operational plan for SC’s global work to address the impact of climate change on education and CP
• Advance existing climate and education/CP initiatives to strengthen capacity of education and CP sector staff to adapt programming to their climate context
• Achieve results set out in the strategic and operational plans and articulate sector approach(es) to measuring global results and monitoring progress toward agreed upon results
• Provide technical expertise and oversight to ensure programs apply evidence-based interventions and approaches in programs, and develop and support new state-of-the-art approaches for the integration of climate adaptive and mitigation strategies in programming
• Contribute to the development and implementation of a new global strategy for Climate Change for SC
• Work with SC members and SC country offices to build programming capacity to address the impact of climate change on education and CP, including approaches to integrating related efforts with work in global health, hunger and livelihoods, and connect development and humanitarian assistance efforts related to climate change impacts

Lead Program Learning and Innovation (20%)
• Articulate key climate change and education/CP program innovation and learning priorities
• Identify opportunities via programming and proposals to build evidence regarding key climate and education/protection learning questions.
• Identify, document, disseminate and promote uptake of best practices from country programs and global work via the Climate Resilience and Environmental Sustainability Technical Working Groups
• Support monitoring and evaluation, with a focus on sound data collection, analysis, and interpretation for program management, proposal development, and documentation of project innovations and impact. Support high quality baseline, midterm and final evaluations and other program planning assessments
• Initiate planning and implementation of skill development/training/capacity building for SC specific to the DECP portfolio
• Collaborate on technical issues with SC members via Technical Working Groups: Climate Resilience, Environmental Sustainability, and Protecting Children in & around Schools

Technical Leadership for Policy and Advocacy (10%)
• Help define SC’s global advocacy agenda to address key agency priorities
• Contribute to building alliances and strategic partnerships to influence policy and support learning and innovation
• Provide expertise related to climate change and education/CP to implementation of larger agency advocacy efforts
• Provide guidance for country level advocacy efforts

Required Qualifications
• Minimum of a Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 7 years of relevant experience;
• Demonstrated understanding of the evidence, science, adaptation and mitigation approaches for climate change and the impact climate change has on education and child protection in low and middle-income countries;
• Proven successful track record in developing effective and responsive project proposals;
• Demonstrated experience with global donors and proven successful record of fostering new and effective partnerships with international partners;
• Willing and able to travel within and outside of the US up to 15%;
• Professional proficiency in MS Office suite;
• Professional proficiency in spoken and written English;
• Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals and teams at all levels, both internally and externally;
• Demonstrated commitment to fostering and maintaining an environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

Preferred Qualifications
• International development experience in climate change and its relationship to education and child protection;
• Familiarity with the UN Green Climate Fund;
• Experience working on education and CP programs across rural and urban contexts;
• French Proficiency.
