The purpose of this consultancy is to provide the Nutrition Team (Nutrition in Emergencies and Prevention and Care of Wasting) with graphic design and production for print and web for high-quality dissemination products featuring UNICEF WCAR nutrition data and nutrition-focused materials. Design materials also support fundraising and advocacy for the Nutrition section and UNICEF and provides a consistent look for regional nutrition publications (e.g. reports, guidance, advocacy and communication tools, policy briefs, Dashboards, PPTs) for UNICEF WCARO.

How can you make a difference?

UNICEF WCARO is looking for a graphic designer to ensure reader-friendly and impactful layout of various documents including reports, advocacy briefs, high-quality infographics and presentations to support the nutrition team in telling stories related to the Prevention and Treatment of Wasting, Costing and Financing and Nutrition Interventions in Emergency with a specific focus for Covid-19.

 

Scope of work

In collaboration with members of the Nutrition Section, the consultant will:

Support the creative direction of all nutrition-focused publication and online materials; performs work independently, having initiative to meet the objectives of the post; works closely with team providing guidance on visual approaches and matches appropriate solutions through thorough reading and understanding of materials, and meetings with team on follow-up, corrections;
Design and develops visual systems for high-level design projects in compliance with UNICEF design and branding standards for presentations, publications, and web-content; oversees design projects from ideation to realization, taking into account the complexity of message and/or visual image the Nutrition team needs to project, anticipating and communicating what is feasible considering various project release dates.

Profile / Requirements

Education

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in graphic design, arts of design, communication or a relevant field.
  • A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree.

Experience

At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in graphic design is required. Experience with the United Nations or other International Organizations would be an asset. Experience working in West and Central Africa Region would be an asset.

Language Requirements

Fluency in French and English.

 

Competencies

  • Advanced knowledge of design and communications concepts and Adobe Creative Suite software.
  • Advanced knowledge of production processes for a variety of media and knowledge of vendor requirements for print products.
  • Advanced design, creative and artistic skills. Demonstrated experience in designing high-quality infographics, graphs, reports and brochures.
  • Advanced skills to devise broad design ideas, present them to teams, and produce results on time. Proven experience to handle multiple projects simultaneously and to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Advanced interpersonal communications skills, including active listening skills and skills to work effectively within teams and to effectively provide advanced design advice and consultation to clients on all aspects of visual communications.
  • Advanced proficiency of Adobe Creative Suite software, Microsoft Office Suite including PowerPoint, Excel and Word, and Infogram platforms. Understanding of WordPress for web updates is a plus.

Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

Due to COVID19, office physical presence and travel restriction might be in place at the duty station. In this regard, it is expected that the selected incumbent will have the resources to work remotely as long as it is required.
